New Ways to Immigrate to Canada

Canada has announced a new immigration path that prioritizes health professionals. Canada has introduced new open work visa categories for spouse and family members. The health business is one of the critical industries in Canada’s labor force that is suffering unprecedented shortages.

To address this issue, the Canadian government is asking healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and optometrists, to apply for permanent residency.

The first round of category-based selection is already underway, and 500 healthcare professionals are invited to apply. A second wave of applications will be sent to 1,500 workers in July. Last month, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Sean Fraser, updated Express Entry, the country’s flagship economic immigration program.

Health professionals continue to work around the clock to provide excellent care to people in communities across Canada. Nonetheless, it is clear that our health-care system need extra personnel to continue providing the high-quality treatment to which Canadians are entitled.

Over half of the applications for employees working as nurse assistants, orderlies, and patient service associates were received for this pilot, which has seen the most uptake in the healthcare business thus far.

In April, changes were made to express entry to make it simpler to award permanent residence visas to doctors practicing publicly funded medicine in Canada. In December, the Canadian government announced a $90 million investment in efforts to assist remove barriers that prevent qualified and competent immigrants from gaining experience in their professions or fields of study. Between 2017 and 2022, 21,656 skilled immigrants entered Canada to work in the health sector.

Canada Has Announced A New Open Work Permit For Spouses And Family Members.

Canada has announced several new measures to help permanent residents bring their families to the country, including a new open work visa for applicants in the spouse and family class. The new policies should help address the labor shortages that have plagued Canada since the outbreak.

Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, has announced faster Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) processing and more thoughtful application measures to allow families to spend more time together while waiting for their permanent residency to be approved. Among the notable measures announced were:

Spousal applicants can expect faster Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) processing times.
Following that, new and dedicated processing tools for spousal TRV applicants will be introduced.
In addition, there is a new open work permit for spousal and family class applicants.
Furthermore, open work permit extensions expire between August 1st and the end of 2023 for open work permit holders.

The majority of these applications will be processed within 30 days in the future, and applicants will have access to processing procedures tailored to their situation as spouses or independents. These new tools aid in the processing of a variety of applications. This group of applications received a 93% approval rate. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued a statement.

Canada has made open work permits available to spouse candidates and their dependent children who live in Canada with their sponsor and have temporary resident status.

Partners and dependents can now apply for and obtain open work permits as soon as they submit a comprehensive application for permanent residence under the Spouse or Common Law Partner in Canada Class (SPCLC) or other family class programs.

Open work permit holders, including spousal applicants, with open work permit expirations between August 1 and December 31, 2023, can extend their work permits for an additional 18 months, according to Fraser. Many people whose post-graduation work permits were about to expire recently had a similar option.

Processing Times in Canada

Because of ongoing improvements in customer service, Canada will process applications faster in 2022. Since July 2022, millions of people have received case decisions as a result of IRCC’s completion of more than 5.2 million applications across our diverse lines of business. New spousal sponsorship applicants are processed within 12 months for 80% of non-Quebec applications.

To begin, foreign nationals can obtain open work permits in a variety of situations. However, not everyone is eligible for a stay.
Then, under this expedited processing method, it is only available to spouses of permanent residence candidates who are awaiting a decision on their permanent residence application.
Spouses sponsored by the family class who have a valid temporary resident visa, as well as their dependent children, are also eligible.
Furthermore, the majority of work permit holders’ spouses, common-law partners, and dependent children are foreign nationals.
Similarly, in 2022, Canada issued approximately 175,000 work permits and work permit extensions to spouses and common-law partners of study permit holders.
