The Executive Director of Education Think Tank, Africa Education Watch, Mr. Kofi Asare has called on the GES has petitioned the Ghana Education Service (GES) to stop all teachers from partaking in the yet-to-start 2021 population census exercise.

GES MUST withdraw teachers from the 2021 population census exercise call

Mr. Kofi Asare made this known in a social post. He said the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) permits teachers to work for the Ghana Statistical Service from the census night to the end of it, it will lead to will contribute to the loss of 21 days of teaching and learning.

“Dear GES why are you silent on teachers being used for the Population census at the expense of empty classrooms in a covid compressed academic year? Do we realize at least 21 days of teachers time on task could be lost?” he stated.

 

There was a communique that went viral indicating the GES had allowed teaches to participate in the 2021 population census. But the education service said the said letter was fake and should be regarded.

The communique said it has not yet been communicated to Regional Directors of Education to permit teachers in various schools to leave their classrooms to participate in the soon-to-start population census exercise.

The Africa Education Watch call for GES to withdraw teachers from the 2021 population census exercise is in place as it will affect learners.
