JUST IN: Palestinian Authority Prime Minister, Mohammed Shtayyeh And Government Resign

Palestinian Authority Prime Minister resigns

Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh and the Government officially resign from government effective immediately.

Shtayyeh announced his resignation on Monday, citing the need to establish a new cabinet that reflects recent events in the war with Israel and the increase of violence in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

The departure comes as the United States and other international donors increase pressure on the Palestinian Authority to execute reforms, which have been accused of corruption, mismanagement, and human rights violations.

The United States has also urged the Palestinian Authority to resume negotiations with Israel and hold elections, which have been postponed for more than a decade.

The resignation might clear the way for a new administration made up of independent experts and representatives from diverse factions, including Hamas, the Islamist group that governs the Gaza Strip and fought Israel for 12 days in May.

Hamas has hailed Shtayyeh and his government’s resignation, describing it as a “positive step” towards ending the rift between the West Bank and Gaza and attaining national unity.

However, the resignation is not final because President Abbas has not yet chosen whether to accept it or not. Abbas can choose a new prime minister and government, as well as request that Shtayyeh create a new cabinet.

Abbas, who is 86 years old and in the 17th year of his four-year tenure, has not announced his plans for the Palestinian Authority, which he has headed since 2005.

Some commentators believe that Abbas would use his resignation as an opportunity to reshuffle his supporters and consolidate his influence, rather than implementing serious changes and sharing authority with other groups.

The departure of the Palestinian Authority Prime Minister and his government marks a significant development in the aftermath of the war with Israel, which has left the Palestinian territories in a condition of humanitarian crisis and political instability.

US 2024 Presidential Election: Trump Wins South Carolina Primary

Former President Donald Trump won a commanding victory in the South Carolina Republican primary, securing his position as the frontrunner for the 2024 candidature.

According to the Associated Press, Trump won 68% of the vote, far ahead of his closest rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who received 15%. The other contenders, including former Vice President Mike Pence, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, trailed by single digits.

The victory in South Carolina, a major early-voting state, gives Trump additional momentum and delegates as he aims to regain the White House after losing to President Joe Biden in 2020. Trump has maintained a devoted network of followers in the state, where he won by 12 points.

Trump thanked his supporters during a rally in Columbia, the state capital, where he repeated his baseless claims of election fraud and criticised the Biden administration’s policies on immigration, energy, and foreign policy.

“We are going to take back our country from the radical left and make America great again,” Trump stated, drawing applause from the audience. “We are the party of law and order, of liberty and wealth, of fortitude and courage. We are Donald J. Trump’s party, and we will not give up.

Trump also attacked his Republican opponents, labelling them “weak” and “disloyal” and urged them to get out of the race. He claimed he was the only one capable of defeating Biden in 2024 and restoring the ‘America first’ agenda.

The South Carolina primary results indicate that Trump retains a strong hold on the Republican Party, despite facing impeachment, lawsuits, and social media bans after leaving office. Candidates around the country have sought his endorsement, and his influence has helped shape the party’s direction and tone.

However, Trump faces tremendous difficulties and uncertainty as he seeks a political return. He is facing various investigations and legal battles for his financial practices, his role in the Capitol violence on January 6, and his attempts to overturn election results. He is also barred from using major social media platforms, which limits his capacity to interact with his supporters and raise donations.

Furthermore, Trump could face a more diverse and competitive field of candidates in the next primaries, as some Republicans strive to distance themselves from his divisive language and appeal to a larger population.

Some possible competitors, such Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and former Ohio Governor John Kasich, have yet to enter the campaign, but they may do so in the coming months.

The next Republican primary will take place in Nevada on March 4, followed by Arizona on March 11 and Michigan on March 18. Trump is projected to win these states, although he may face stiffer competition in later races such as New Hampshire, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

3 Public Figures Who Declined Bawumia 's Manifesto Committee Roles

In this Blogpost, we shall read about some public figures who Declined Bawumia’s Manifesto Committee roles because of their Professional Neutrality and Political Engagement.
In a surprising turn of events, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) aspirant for the 2024 presidential election, Mahamudu Bawumia, has encountered a setback with his manifesto committee. The committee, intended to outline the policy directions and promises of Bawumia’s campaign, has seen a notable number of appointees decline to participate. This development unfolds less than a week after the committee’s detailed list was unveiled, highlighting the challenges political campaigns can face in rallying support.

Among the individuals who have opted out are key figures from various sectors: the tourism and creative arts, sports, and economy subcommittees. These rejections signal a cautious approach from professionals and public figures towards political alignments, reflecting on the broader implications of such affiliations.
Charles Osei Asibey, a respected member of the sports community, has publicly declined his appointment to the sports subcommittee.

As the president of the Africa Armwrestling Federation and Vice President of the World Armwrestling Federation, Osei Asibey’s statement on February 25, 2024, emphasized his desire to remain apolitical. He underscored the importance of maintaining neutrality to effectively serve in his sporting roles, thereby rejecting the political committee position.

Similarly, the renowned highlife musician Okyeame Kwame has distanced himself from the manifesto committee, specifically the Tourism and Culture subcommittee. Despite being named as a member, Okyeame Kwame clarified in a statement dated February 24, 2024, that he had not been formally appointed nor had he accepted any such role. Emphasizing his non-partisan stance, he reiterated his openness to contributing to policy discussions across the political spectrum, provided it advances the arts and culture sector in Ghana.

The situation with Ms. Abena Amoah, who was listed as a co-chair of the economy subcommittee, adds another layer of complexity. The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE), where Ms. Amoah serves as CEO, issued a disclaimer stating that she had not been approached by Bawumia’s campaign team and had no involvement with the manifesto committee. This misidentification underscores the potential for miscommunication in assembling such teams.

The manifesto committee, comprising 319 members across various sectors, reflects an ambitious attempt to incorporate a wide range of expertise and perspectives. It includes serving ministers acting as advisors and is led by the immediate past Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, with Kojo Oppong Nkrumah as deputy. However, the recent rejections pose questions about the vetting process for appointees and the challenge of securing commitment from public figures wary of political affiliations.

These developments highlight the intricate balance between political engagement and professional neutrality, particularly in a polarized landscape. As the NPP and Bawumia’s team navigate these challenges, the effectiveness of their manifesto and the broader campaign strategy may hinge on their ability to build a cohesive and committed team.

Hon. Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa Writes: PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO’S ELEPHANTINE, WRONGFUL & UNCONSCIONABLE US$48MILLION (GHS602MILLION) “OPERATIONAL EXPENSES” FOR THE 13TH AFRICAN GAMES

US$100 million SML scandal Dam spillage: You’re getting on our nerves; move to where? – Ablakwa to Freda Prempeh

PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO’S ELEPHANTINE, WRONGFUL & UNCONSCIONABLE US$48MILLION (GHS602MILLION) “OPERATIONAL EXPENSES” FOR THE 13TH AFRICAN GAMES

1. Even before the dust settles on the scandalous US$8.5million AFCON budget brouhaha; unimpeachable, unassailable and incontrovertible intercepted documents in my possession reveal for the first time that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his appointees at the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) have shockingly agreed to spend an elephantine, wrongful and unconscionable US$48million on so-called “operational expenses” for the 13th African Games to be hosted in Ghana between the period — March 5 to March 23, 2024. [Refer to intercepted documents attached]

2. It must be noted that this staggering US$48million is an entirely different amount from the mega US$195million (GHS2.4billion) already spent on infrastructure for the games.

3. At the prevailing exchange rate, US$48million is equivalent to a colossal GHS602million.

4. A careful reading of the intercepted February 13, 2024 letter signed by the LOC Executive Chairman, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare confirms that this ginormous US$48million (GHS602million) will be spent in less than a three week period (18 days). This translates into a 6-day weekly expenditure on “operational expenses” of a mind boggling GHS200.6million, and an even more incredible daily “operational expenses” of GHS33.4million.

5. It is most instructive to note that apart from the blatant profligacy and reckless wastefulness by the leader of a bankrupt, debt-distress IMF bailout country; President Akufo-Addo’s conduct is absolutely wrong because Parliament approved GHS100million under Goods and Services and then GHS50million for Capital Expenditure for the 2024 expenditure by the Ministry of Youth and Sports on the 13th African Games. [see page 230 of 2024 Budget as attached]. It is therefore totally lawless and utterly repugnant for President Akufo-Addo to unilaterally vary by more than six times what Parliament has approved for non-CapEX — that is from GHS100million to GHS602million.

6. The intercepted documents confirm that despite Parliament’s approval of only GHS100million, President Akufo-Addo instructed the LOC to send out official request letters as recent as February 13, 2024 in which they defy Parliament and communicate their outlandish, unlawful and unjustifiable US$48million (GHS602million).

7. It is regrettable to note that instead of President Akufo-Addo and his appointees at the Sports Ministry and LOC acknowledging Ghana’s current economic crisis and slashing their ostentatious US$48million (GHS602million) “operational expenses” budget, he rather proceeded to personally chair fundraising meetings on the 6th and 7th of November, 2023 at the Jubilee House with an objective of raising the US$48million (GHS602million). [See evidence of the President’s meetings attached].

8. A number of top executives who have received the Akufo-Addo-inspired US$48million (GHS602million) shocking request letter are outraged about the quantum for a broke country and the deliberate refusal to transparently present a breakdown.

9. Careful analysis of the entities President Akufo-Addo met during his now infamous fundraising engagements show that the President is mainly interested in public funds either by targeting SOEs such as GNPC, Ghana Gas, BOST and GOIL; or by targeting private companies such as MacDan, Zoomlion, MODEC and Kosmos all noted for executing huge government contracts.

10. Additionally, the President’s conduct raises fundamental ethical questions: how did the President select these companies? What promises did President Akufo-Addo make to these CEOs? How can other companies compete fairly with these “presidential companies” in any competitive bidding process, particularly considering the current single-source procurement epidemic? After these companies present their US$5million sponsorship cash to the President’s misplaced fundraising campaign, how can taxpayers be assured of value for money in the projects these entities would execute?

11. Should GNPC, Ghana Gas, BOST and GOIL which belong to the Ghanaian people be compelled by President Akufo-Addo to sponsor his unconscionable GHS602million 13th African Games “Operational Expenses” when these corporations could be allowed to make more meaningful investments in expanding their operations so they could create sustainable jobs for the youth and thereby help address Ghana’s acute youth unemployment?

12. Why are these SOEs beginning to make payment due to President Akufo-Addo’s unlawful pressure when they haven’t sought Parliamentary approval? The BOST management should prepare to answer questions in Parliament for the initial US$500,000.00 (GHS6.2million) it transferred to Akufo-Addo’s LOC a few days ago.

13. The Minority Caucus in Parliament led by the dynamic Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson will this week seek Speaker Bagbin’s blessings to summon the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif on their unlawful, ostentatious and unconscionable US$48million (GHS602million) “Operational Expenses” budget which undermines the authority of Parliament — that will be a first step in a series of constitutional actions, not ruling out possible impeachment of President Akufo-Addo, as we are determined to make sure the President doesn’t get away with another blatant “create, loot and share” scheme.

14. President Akufo-Addo’s unpatriotic and nation-wrecking act of approving and leading the collection of this gigantic US$48million (GHS602million) for so-called “Operational Expenses” for the 13th African Games deserves to be exposed and scuttled.

15. A government denying pensioners their life savings; a government unable to house VRA spillage victims who are still living in refugee-like tents after five months; a government unable to equip our hospitals including the renal unit of KATH, the imaging departments at Korle-Bu, Ridge, 37 and our regional hospitals; a government which claims it cannot subsidize dialysis treatment and prevent our compatriots from dying; a government unable to clear billions in arrears to contractors, independent power producers, school feeding caterers, public sector workers, teacher and nursing trainees, national service personnel, DACF, NHIS, GETFund; a government unable to employ thousands of young graduates who offered nursing and PharmD and have had to stay at home for years; a government which embarrassingly owed the Black Queens for many months until recent fierce mass agitations; and a government desperately seeking an IMF bailout must not be allowed to spend US$48million (GHS602million) for an 18-day event, particularly when Parliament has generously approved GHS100million. We shall surely defeat this lootocratic scheme!

Summary: President Akufo-Addo and his appointees plan to spend a controversiaI US$48 million (GHS602 million) on “operational expenses” for the 13th African Games, far exceeding Parliament’s approved GHS100 million. This move, criticized for its profligacy, targets both public and private funds, sparking ethical concerns and potential parliamentary actions.

For God and Country.

About Morgan Heritage: A Pillar of Reggae Music

Morgan Heritage, a name synonymous with reggae’s profound impact on the global music scene, represents a saga of musical excellence and cultural heritage. Formed in 1994 by the progeny of reggae luminary Denroy Morgan, the band embarked on a journey that would see them become one of the most influential reggae acts of their time. With members Peter “Peetah” Morgan, Una Morgan, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan, and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan at the helm, Morgan Heritage has woven a tapestry of musical narratives that resonate with authenticity and passion.

The band’s inception was marked by their debut at Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica, a performance that heralded the arrival of reggae’s next torchbearers. Their first album, “Miracles,” though more pop-influenced, laid the groundwork for what would become a storied career. The real transformation occurred upon their return to Jamaica, the homeland of their father, where they immersed themselves in the reggae scene, leading to the release of seminal albums like “Protect Us Jah” (1997), “One Calling” (1998), and the spiritually charged “Don’t Haffi Dread” (1999).

Morgan Heritage’s sound, deeply rooted in reggae’s rich traditions, also embraced innovation, allowing them to remain relevant across decades. Albums such as “More Teachings…” and “Three in One” continued to build their legacy, each project reinforcing their commitment to music that speaks to the soul. Ghana is Currently a Hotspot for Corruption Under Nana Addo

Ghana is Currently a Hotspot for Corruption Under Nana Addo

The North Tongu Member of Parliament has voiced concerns about Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s corruption leadership of Ghana.

According to him, Ghana is currently a free-for-all nation without elders to make sure that checks are made.

Renowned investigator Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa claimed that the government has left everyone to plunder the nation.

Okudzeto Ablakwa is concerned that the administration has been involved in multiple dishonest transactions, given that the government made a pledge to the Ghanaian people to combat corruption.

Regarding the problems with the National Cathedral, which he has been looking at for a while, he said that a commission of inquiry into the project’s financial costs has to be established by a future government.

The average cash bribe given to public officials in Ghana conceals significant variations in the amount of cash bribes, as stated in the section ahead on “How Bribery Works.” These variations are caused by a variety of factors, including the area where bribes are paid, the service sought at the time of payment, and the economic justifications for the bribes. In a similar vein, the magnitude of bribes varies greatly depending on the kind of public figure receiving them.

The highest cash bribes, amounting to an average of GHC 1,669 across all public official categories for which there was adequate data, were given to Lands Commission Officers, as well as prosecutors, judges, or magistrates (GHC1,208). By contrast, much smaller average amounts were paid to health workers (GHC 91–253) and police officers (GHC 220).

Interactions with workers in the private sector about corruption

Additionally, the poll asked respondents about their interactions with six different private sector personnel in private hospitals, including physicians, nurses, midwives, and other paramedics, teachers, instructors and instructors at private schools, staff members at private banks, and personnel in private insurance firms, private security personnel, and other workers in private corporations.

Regarding the rate of contact, 20.9 percent of participants in the study state they have interacted with staff members of private banks, 17.4% with educators at a private school, and 16.8% with medical personnel in private hospitals. There is significantly less contact with other employees in the private sector.

Compared to the public sector, where the contact rate is 51.3%, private institutions have substantially lower rates of interaction with teachers, lecturers, and professors. Comparably, only 16.8% of survey participants reported having contact with medical professionals employed in the private sector, compared to 60.2% of respondents who reported having contact with physicians, nurses, or midwives at public sector facilities in the 12 months before to the poll.

Outlining Reasons why NDC Will Win 2024 Elections

NDC Will Win 2024 Elections

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a member of parliament for North Tongu, is confident that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will will in the 2024 elections.

He firmly believes that Ghanaians must escape the quagmire in which they find themselves and vote wisely for NDC to win 2024 Elections.

According to Okudzeto, the Ghanaian people view the NDC as a superior option to help them escape the economic disaster that the current NPP administration has brought about.

In an interview with TV3, he said that the NDC will never be complacent, despite the fact that it is obvious that the people of Ghana demand change.

“There is absolutely no doubt in our minds that we are winning, NDC will win this coming 2024 elections. It’s not because we believe it to be right or are complacent. Not at all. He remarked on TV3, “We have never seen such a disorganised government, so naive, so brutal, such a corrupt government, so wasteful.

“Our flagbearer has been out there,” he remarked, referring to what the NDC has to give Ghana’s noble people. NDC must win and restore stability to the lovely nation. He has given so much, you see. I’m starting to read articles. The most recent one I read was by Manasseh Azure, who advised our flag bearer to hold off on making too many promises because the economy he would inherit would not be favourable.

Instead, he should reassure us that he would only bring charges against dishonest officials and seize the wealth.

President Mahama has made a strong case for the 24-hour economy because, after corruption, which is currently the nation’s largest national disaster, youth unemployment is the other major problem.

According to the population census for 2021, our staggering unemployment rate is 14%. I know young people who have lived at home for three or four years; they are my constituents. They lose their dignity as a result.

Because of this, the 24-hour economy—which by definition has three working shifts—allows businesses that sign up for the programme to receive incentives, tax breaks, and special tax treatment, enabling them to hire more workers. The public sector will take the lead in this regard, the speaker stated. These are reasons we stand on assuring that NDC will win 2024 elections and give back our youth the future they dreamed off.

Sad Realities: SSNIT contributors must wake up or go home with peanuts upon retirement

No Renewal, No SSNIT Pension: SSNIT Enforces New Birth-Month Verification Policy for All Pensioners Sad Realities: SSNIT contributors must wake up to or go home with peanuts upon retirement

By the end of this post, you will learn the sad realities that all SSNIT contributors must wake up to or go home with peanuts upon retirement. SSNIT continues to educate the public on why they must ensure that their employers pay their deductions on a monthly and regular basis.

Factors that will cause SSNIT contributors to go home with peanuts upon retirement

Some of you reading this do not have any idea how much your employer is contributing on your behalf. That is the first dangerous reality. Do you know yours?
For instance, while you might be receiving Ghs3,000 monthly, your employer reports to SSNIT that you are paid Ghs600.

Consequently, the 11% contribution to SSNIT is calculated based on the reported Ghs600 (resulting in Ghs66 as a monthly contribution) rather than on the actual Ghs3,000 (which would be Ghs330).

Note that low contributions lead to low pensions. If your employer tries to convince you to reduce your pay data sent to SSNIT so that they can pay lower SSNIT contributions and save money for the company, never agree and report the matter to SSNIT.

Again, check the contributions sent to SSNIT by your employer every quarter to ensure the right amount is being paid on your behalf. How many of you even bother to check your SSNIT statement of account? Just a few. You can check it online by reading this post [How to Check SSNIT Statement Online] for the guide.

READ: How To Boost Your SSNIT Monthly Pension As Unemployed Or As Student Or For A Relation

If your allowances are higher than your basic, immediately engage your employer to consolidate your earnings and pay a contribution on the entire earnings. What this means is that you have to ensure that the employer converts a greater percentage of your allowances into your main basic pay so that your SSNIT deductions will increase, which will further increase your SSNIT benefits in the future.

Remember that the highest-earning SSINT pensioner earns more than GHS 187,000 every month. The person was a businessman, not a government worker. You can contribute to SSNIT from all personal businesses you engage in, in addition to what your employer pays for you. This way, you will be investing in your future.

The pension you’ll receive is based on your basic pay (not allowance) declared to SSNIT. SSNIT wouldn’t know the actual amount you receive monthly from your employer. Again, SSNIT does not deduct the contribution from your salary; it’s the employer who makes the deductions on your behalf and pays them to SSNIT.

READ: How to merged SSNIT to Ghana Card Number To CAGD Status: Step-by-step guide

SSNIT sends a statement every quarter. How many go through to know the exact amount your employer is paying on your behalf? If you do not get this statement, check out how to correct the contact details you have with SSNIT so that you can start receiving the quarterly statements.

Sadly, the moment some of you see SSNIT on TV, you change the channel to watch football or a telenovela. However, the same people will say SSNIT isn’t educating them. SSNIT is doing its part. What have you also done to educate yourself on pensions? Take interest in your retirement now.

READ: How your SSNIT Retirement (Pension) Benefit is Calculated

If anyone has any concerns, get to the nearest SSNIT office. Go to the SSNIT website and find out how you can save your pension, future, and SSNIT contributions and prevent future regrets.

Now that you know the reasons and factors  that will cause SSNIT contributors to go home with peanuts upon retirement, take proactive steps now.
