UTAG Strike: No Politician can call off the UTAG strike – Prof. Gyampo

A reaction from Prof. Ransford Gyampo after the breaking news that UTAG has called off the 38 days strike after meeting the Education Committee of Parliament has cast doubts on the news.

Portions of the breaking news indicating UTAG had called off the strike read…

“University teachers in the country have called off their strike after meeting the Education Committee of Parliament Thursday.”

“The meeting which had leadership of UTAG, Fair Wages, and Minister for Education, Minister for Employment and Labor Relations lasted hours.”

“UTAG consequently agreed to call off the strike and engage government further following intervention of the education committee”

A Starrfm.com.gh news item republished by Ghanaeducation.org indicated the strike had been called off however, Prof. Ransford Gyampo posted a COUNTER REACTION regarding the news that UTAG has called off the Strike on his official Facebook page. He said:

“Note this: No Politician can call off the UTAG strike. No Sponsored Propagandistic Media Reportage can pressurize anyone. Only members can rescind their decision after they are convinced. If they do, they will communicate.”

His post has attracted a lot of comments and missed feelings among students and the general public. While some called for mercy others challenges his statement citing the court order.

Below are some of the reactions and comments left on the post

Prof… respectfully, accept our plea…
If you follow the fly, you may end up adding more injury to the existing one…
We beg you.
Senior. We agree politicians can’t order you around but kindly consider your students. In all these, they’re those suffering. Sooner or later, the government will meet your demands, and I’m sure your students understand why you’re doing what you’re doing, but, kindly look at them and pity them!
The politicians have taken teachers for granted. If UTAG calls off the strike action, they will continue to laugh over our conditions of service.
Clearly propaganda Mr. RANSFORD you’re doing!
why is it that when the court-ordered UTAG to call off the strike you didn’t come here and post something about it!
Now Education Committee at the parliament has successfully talked to UTAG to call off the strike and then you hurry up here, telling us this!
You’re doing Propaganda Mr. RANSFORD
mmmm it’s very sad that government cannot solve this problem once and for all
Even though I support UTAG for their demands 🇬🇭🇬🇭✅
They need money to continue teaching. Better conditions as well. All those saying nonsense and also saying that they should consider the plight of students imagine it’s you or your parent or a family member who has been teaching for years and going on strike and calling it off cus they lie to him will you be happy.
