Withdraw extension of instructional hours for basic schools – GES told

Ghana Education News| August 2021| Withdraw extension of instructional hours for schools – GES told.

The three Teacher Unions (NAGRAT, GNAT and CCT-GH) have called on the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediately withdraw the extension of instructional hours for all public schools across the country.

The Unions comment comes after a statement issued by the New Juaben South Municipal Director for Education to heads of public schools in the Eastern Regions said the contact hours for government schools have been increased.

According to a reported release from the Education Director obtained by Ghana Education News, sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. GMT and end at 15:00 p.m. GMT for all public schools on Monday, August 23, 2021, unless otherwise specified.

But, the Teacher Unions reacting to the new school hours has said the directive of the Ghana Education Service (GES) is unacceptable and against the letter and spirit of Article 3.3 of the Code of Conduct for staff of Service.

“The circular offends Section 13 of the Collective Agreement for staff within the Ghana Education Service (GES), August 2020 specifically,” NAGRAT, GNAT and CCT-GH stated in a joint release copied to press.

The Unions as the directive breaches union of trust and practice within the GES Code of Conduct have consequently asked GES to quickly withdraw the extension adding that any attempt to force it on teachers would be resisted fiercely.
