The MoE visits to debunk the No food shortage in SHSs allegation
John Ntim Forjour, Deputy Minister of Education in Ghana, said that speculations that there was a food shortage in certain secondary schools were unfortunate and an attempt to create a negative impression against the flagship Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo programme, which had been accepted by the nation and the world.
As part of an unannounced tour of selected SHSs in Greater Accra, the Deputy Minister made the denial to the media on Monday afternoon.
The Deputy Minister visited O’Reilly SHS, Tema SHS, and Achimota SHS, among others.
During the visit, a part of the media speculated that some SHS had ran out of food.
General Secretary of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Mr Thomas Musah, complained about food shortages at several SHSs in the country in a 2018 interview with TV 3. The interview aired on TV 3.
According to a video that has been circulating for three years, there is a food scarcity in the schools.
So when the Education Ministry contacted GNAT’s General Secretary, he refused to do another interview and professed his amazement at the footage, admitting that it was an old film that was being circulated.
Because of the Ministry’s current reaction efforts, he was optimistic that the issue of food scarcity wouldn’t arise again.
Another interesting incident occurred last Thursday evening when the Minister of Education made a surprise visit to the Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC) in Legon to meet with students and staff.
