Novel Mortuary & Funeral Studies Certificate Programme at Pentecost University
The profitability of operating a mortuary at a health facility & providing funeral-related service in Ghana has reached its highest in recent times. Families spend a lot of hard-to-come-by financial resources just to bury the dead.
The introduction of the Mortuary & funeral studies certificate programme at Pentecost University is a novel idea that will ensure professionalism and high levels of effectiveness and efficiency in the delivery of services offered to parents who have lost their beloved ones.
The programme is expected to among other things equip students who enrol with the requisite skills in environmental, cultural, and epidemic risks in mortuary and funeral services.
The programme will ensure professionals in the death care value chain such as Management officials and Entrepreneurial Class, Managers of Funeral Homes, Mortuaries, Mausoleums and Cemeteries acquire modern and scientific knowledge to help them serve their clients better.
The university has also disclosed that the programme will be extended to students who are already in the Mortuary & Funeral service and will include Morticians, Autopsy Assistants, Presectors, and the miscellaneous group which includes mortuary attendants, embalmers, pallbearers, hearse drivers, cemetery Keepers, decorators among others.
Why this is a laudable idea, the Mortuary & Funeral Studies Programme at Pentecost University, the programme must aim at helping those already in the business to acquire these skills irrespective of their ability to read and write the English language.

Research and innovation have a scientific basis to inform policymaking in the death care industry and also build the capacity of staff to provide quality training and service, hence this novel programme will help current practitioners to add value to their skills and knowledge to better serve.
The courses to be taught include pathology, microbial morphology, anatomy, and embalming.
The leadership of the university also emphasised the application of technology and social care in the training and gave the assurance that the university was well-positioned to deliver the programme.
