NSS Delayed Allowances and Arrears Update Released

The Nation Service Secretariat (NSS) has provided new updates on delayed allowances and arrears of service personnel following agitations from outgoing personnel.

In a press release by the NSS sighted by Ghana Education News, the NSS indicated that the management of the service has taken notice of the concerns expressed by personnel with regard to their unpaid allowances for September 2023 and all outstanding arrears from January 2023 to June 2023.

The arrears are the result of the latest increase in the NSS allowance by the government.

It added that the September 2023 allowance has been released and is currently being processed for the service personnel.

It further stated that “Management further wishes to assure service personnel that allowances for October and the arrears are all being processed and will be paid soon after payment of the September allowances.”

Service personnel have been directed to exercise restraint as the normal financial processes are being adhered to for all their well-deserved allowances to be paid.

The NSS used the opportunity to wish all 2022–2023 year’s service personnel the best of luck as they complete their national service in October.

The new NSS monthly allowance is GH¢715.57, with effect from January 2023. This represents an increase of GH¢156.53 from the previous allowance of GH¢559.04.

All National Service Personnel who are currently in active service are entitled to arrears for the difference in the upward adjustment from January 2023. This means that if you have been serving since January 2023, you are entitled to arrears of GH¢156.53 for each month that you have served.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) has assured all National Service Personnel that their arrears will be paid accordingly. However, it is important to note that the NSS is still in the process of concluding the necessary administrative processes to have all the arrears duly paid. Therefore, National Service Personnel are urged to exercise patience.
