According to the National Teaching Council (NTC), unlicensed teachers are to be sacked from classrooms by 2025 per the timelines set for all teachers to be licensed as professional educators.
Unlicensed teachers to be sacked
The leader of the National Teaching Council (NTC), Dr. Christian Addai Poku in an interview on Peace 104. 3 FM in April 2021 disclosed that NTC will sack unlicensed teachers who fail to meet the requirements of the new reforms.
The unlicensed teachers to be sacked will not be limited to only public school teachers in the country but will focus more on private schools that often employ untrained teachers.
Schools still operating and recruiting teachers without licenses must begin to work towards ensuring such teachers attain the minimum license requirements before the end of 2024.
During the interview of the Executive Secretary of NTC monitored by Ghanaeducation.org, he said teachers in the country have been offered a grace period of three years within which they are to upgrade themselves, qualify, and be licensed.
Dr Christian Addai Poku, the Executive Secretary of the National Teaching Council (NTC) announced this in an interview with the Accra-based Peace 104. 3 FM monitored by Educationweb.com.gh on Thursday licensed as professional teachers. It has been three years since the announcement was made by the NTC.
Currently, nearly all teachers in some private schools are still not licensed to practice.
Failure of any group of teachers and schools to adhere to the directive will amount to having teachers unqualified teachers teaching in schools.
