Open Letter To GES And The Ministry Of Education
Award winning journalist and news anchor at GhOne Television, Serwaa Amihere has pen down a message to the Ghana Education Service as well as the Ministry of Education.
In Serwaa Amihere’s recent post on Twitter, she revealed some disturbing issues happening between some teachers and their pupils in various schools. According to her, some teachers do video recording of some of their pupils and share such video on social media with the hope of getting views and likes.
She added that the video may not be a problem, but the content in the video is very disturbing. This is because, these teachers share these videos online with the hope of making fun of the pupils’ English.
Serwaa Amihere believes that such videos may in the long run, affect the pupils negatively. She is therefore calling on the Ghana Education, Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to help bring this practice to a stop.
“Recently, there is a practice where some teachers in schools in Ghana, record an interaction between their pupils and put it on social media for likes and engagements.
“If such videos were highlighting the challenges these school children go through to access education and seek help for them, I wouldn’t have a problem
However, these videos make mockery of these kids who either struggle to express themselves in English or other areas“I entreat the Ministry of Education and GES to end this practice by some teachers because it is not right and can destroy the confidence of the kids.
“The digital footprints such videos will leave will go a long way to hurt some of these kids and we need to come together with a common voice to end this. Let us protect our kids” she said.
