Over 50,000 teachers promoted and payroll issues resolved – GNAT

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has confirmed the promotion of over 50,000 teachers after the 2024 aptitude test, the resolution of payroll issues, and upcoming engagements with GES on further teacher welfare matters.

The news brings to an end the bottlenecks that arose following the delays in the promotion of teachers and the failure of the government to place teachers affected on the appropriate salary scale.

Their new ranks and associated salaries are expected to be reflected from May 2025.

According to the data provided by GNAT, a total of 50,458 teachers out of 54,227 who are on record to have passed the teacher promotion aptitude test in 2024 have been successfully promoted to their official ranks.  This was made public by Mr Thomas Musah, the GNAT General Secretary.

GNAT furthered that there are plans in place to complete the promotion of teachers in the cohort who passed the exam but are yet to have their promotions confirmed. Per the information detailed by GNAT, all pending and yet-to-be-promoted teachers who were supposed to be promoted in 2023 will also be carried out in May 2025 when dealing with the outstanding teachers in the 2024 batch.

In a related development newly recruited teachers have staged a passionate, heartbreaking demonstration calling on President Mahama to help ensure their salaries are paid. They also requested that their staff IDs be processed quickly to help them get paid.
