Parliament pays GH¢8.5m out of GH¢13m owed ECG to avoid disconnection
Parliament has been forced to pay a portion of its debt to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). To avoid being disconnected from the national grid, the august house paid GH8.5 million of the GH13 million owed to the power distributor.
According to James Avedzi of JoyNews, the payment was paid during a visit to the House by ECG’s revenue mobilization group on Monday, March 20, 2023.
The ECG has launched a variety of initiatives in an effort to recover about GH5 billion in debt owed by both private and public entities.
The amount accumulated as a result of these entities’ failure to pay since August of last year.
The exercise began on Monday, March 20, 2023, when ECG announced the closure of its major offices, except for customer service sections, for a one-month period.
To recover any payments due to the corporation, all ECG personnel, from top management to subordinate officers, would be utilized.
As a result, ECG’s Managing Director, Mr. Dubik Mahama, has toured all the company’s operational zones to educate employees on how to maximize revenue. He stated that they should always respect the customer.
He also reminded the staff that ECG is a business, not a charity and that they must all begin acting like businesspeople.
It is envisaged that by the end of the exercise, ECG would have recovered 100% of its debt.
