Portuguese authorities launch investigation into alleged racial abuse suffered by Emmanuel Boateng

The Authority for the Prevention and Combating of Violence in Sport (APCVD) is looking into whether Emmanuel Boateng, a football player for Ghana, was harassed because of his race.

The incident happened during week 15 of the Liga Portugal 22/23 season, during a game between Vitória S.C. and Rio Ave. Boateng is said to have heard racial slurs from his own fans.

He told the referee, André Narciso, about it, and the game was stopped for a short time.

The Portuguese media have talked a lot about the incident, and now an anti-discrimination group called APCVD is looking into it to see if it’s true.

If the people who did it are found to be guilty, they plan to do something about it.
