Private Schools Association petitions CHRAJ over 30% school placement equity

Private School Associations have petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to oppose the government’s 30% priority placement system which reserves Category ‘A’ second-cycle school admission for public school students over their colleagues in private schools.

The Association says that the 30% placement policy has led to widespread concerns, “as it prioritizes public school students for highly sought-after schools, regardless of their academic performance compared to private school peers.”

“This practice, in our view, compromises fairness and undermines the values of equity and meritocracy that Ghana’s educational system should uphold

Many private school students, who have worked tirelessly to excel academically, are now facing restricted access to these premier institutions due solely to the type of school they attended.” a member of the Private School Associations said.

The Associations say the unfair computer placement system not only disadvantages their private school students who participate in the Basic Education Certificate Examination but also affects their students’ academic and future career opportunities
