Private Schools Council congratulates Mahama on victory in 2024 presidential election
The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has congratulated His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama on winning the just-ended general polls making him Ghana’s next President effective early January 2025.
In a social media post sighted by GhanaEducation.org, the Private Schools Council said “The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) warmly congratulates you on your Victory in the 2024 Presidential Election.
We trust your administration to work together with us to foster a collaborative relationship between the government and Private Education Providers. The entire Private Schools extend our felicitations to you and wish you well as you prepare to take office.”
GNACOPS commendation comes after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate ahead of the 2024 general elections met Executives of the Private Schools Council in an official meeting.
The meeting which took place on 8th October 2019 at the office of the NDC flagbearer located at Cantonment in the Greater Accra region served as a platform for the executives of GNACOPS to share with the former President the vision of the council vis-à-vis the sustainability of private education in Ghana and to again use the opportunity to ask the political figures on the plans they have to forstal the challenges faced by private schools in the country.
The engagement was a response to an invitation extended to the leadership of GNACOPS from the office of the former President for a discussion to solicit for the Council’s contributions as well as their stake in education especially the role of Private Schools in Education so that they (NDC) could factor it into their party manifesto.
During the interaction, the Executive Director for GNACOPS Mr Enoch Gyetuah drew the attention of John Dramani Mahama on the absence of a policy guideline needed to regulate the activities of private schools.
He requested that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) if elected into power in 2025 should consider factoring the introduction of a private educational framework in their policies should they assume governance.
Meanwhile, His Excellency John Mahama has said that he will review the central government’s flagship Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy within his first 90 days in office as the president of the Republic of Ghana.
“within the first 90 days after I take office as the president of Ghana, I will call for the arrangement of a very broad stakeholder and consultative meeting on the way forward for a better free SHS,” he said at a meeting with the leaders of the Ghana National Council for Private Schools (GNACOPS) in Accra.
