Private SHSs in Greater Accra Approved for 2025 Free SHS and School Placement

The government has approved 15 private SHSs in Greater Accra as part of the 60 approved for Free SHS and the associated school placement this year.
This makes these private SHSs in Greater Accra worth considering by parents and 2025 BECE candidates during the self-placement if the Ministry of Education, as part of the CSSPS process, activates this option.
The 2025 GES School Placement allows candidates to choose from a mix of public and private Senior High Schools. Among these, Category E private SHSs offer another pathway for BECE graduates seeking alternative options within the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions.
These schools, registered by the Ghana Education Service, meet the academic and infrastructural requirements to operate and admit fresh SHS 1 students under the Free SHS system (if opted). Below is a verified list with full details including school names, codes, district, programme options, school type, and status.
The government’s move and approval of 60 private SHSs for the 2025 School Placement has been welcomed. However, these schools will be very useful to parents when it comes to self-placement choices.
The approved 15 schools offer six (6) programmes in all. All 15 schools offer General Arts, 12 schools offer Business and Science, while 10, 5, and 3 offer Home Economics, Agricultural Science, and Technical programmes respectively.
All the 15 schools are mixed schools and are spread across the Greater Accra Region. The schools situated in Accra make up 25% of the total approved schools and offer on average five programmes each. This makes them very good schools to consider because the more programmes offered by a school, the more students it is likely to enroll.
The approved private schools in the Greater Accra Region for Free SHS are all designated as day schools. This implies that the government will cater for all expenses of day school SHS 1 students enrolled in the schools through the Free SHS policy. However, those who gain admission as hostel students will have to foot that bill in the private schools.
Where a student is enrolled as a day student through the Free SHS policy in a private school but decides to use the private school’s hostel facility, that will be an extra expense to be paid by the parents and not the government.
