Ghana’s school system is made of both public and private schools. At the second cycle level, there are over 59,282 teachers in both the public and private sectors comprising 6% of the teachers in the private senior high schools. Leaving about 94% of them in the public Senior High Schools and TVET schools. These are information contained in Eduwatch documents and analysis for the 2019/2020 academic year
The public SHS/TVET has a total of 55,750 teachers out of which 23.7% are women. However, the private SHS teachers (3,532) is made up of 15.1% women. Overall, there are 23 2% of women at the second cycle level.

This averaged 23.2% female teachers at the second cycle level contracts heavily with a total of 48.2% female students enrollment at the second cycle enrollment as against 51.8% of males students enrollment at same level. Even though it could be argued that the many female students that enrol at the SHS may find their way into other formal profession, research abounds about male dominations in the other formal professions as well.
