The Ghana Education Service has called on teachers to help learners recover learning losses when school reopens.
The call comes after schools were closed for 10 months because of COVID-19.
The management of GES recognizes the serious effect of the prolonged closure of schools and learners.
In a letter to all regional directors of education sighted by Ghanaeducation.org, the GES said it has “developed learning guidelines and resources to support schools, teachers, and learners”.
GES further instructed all schools to use the first 8 weeks of reopening as recovery weeks for learning interventions.

Activities to be carried out by teachers during the recovery weeks include assessment of learners at all levels to find out their level of knowledge. Teachers are to use differentiated teaching methods to support and closely observe learners’ progress.
If learners are to learners recover learning losses, teachers will have to innovate, understand the needs of learners and strategize to put the young minds back on track for effective academic work.
The learning losses suffered by students and pupils will only be ascertained a few weeks after they have returned to the classroom.
However, the management of GES is yet to make available the guidelines and resources to teachers and schools.
