School bus traps 13-year-old girl to death

On Friday, residents of Tarkwa Nsuaem municipality were hit with sad news as school bus traps a 13-year-old girl to death in a horrifying accident. The girl was on her way to school in Kwabedu, within the Municipality.
The incident, which unfolded at approximately 6:30 am, involved a Tata school bus registered as GN 681-11, owned by Lee’s Kingdom Kids Montessori School.
Eyewitnesses, who were nearby shop owners along the Kwabedu stretch, recounted that the bus was carrying approximately 33 children and adults, ferrying them from Tarkwa to Kwabedu where the school is situated. The sequence of events leading to the accident began when a taxicab, overtaking a vehicle ahead of it, suddenly confronted the school bus at dangerously close proximity.
In an effort to evade a collision with the oncoming taxicab, the bus driver swerved, inadvertently causing the vehicle to veer off the road and into a ditch. Tragically, the young girl, who was passing by on her way to school, became ensnared under the bus.

Promptly responding to the distressing scene, members of the public managed to extricate all occupants from the bus, albeit with varying degrees of injuries. The injured individuals were promptly transported to Goldfields and Tarkwa Municipal hospitals for urgent medical attention. However, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the young girl was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Subsequent inquiries at the medical facilities confirmed that while the other occupants had been treated and discharged, the deceased’s body was transferred to the Tarkwa Municipal hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
This heart-wrenching incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the devastating consequences that can result from split-second decisions on the road. As the community mourns the loss of a promising young life, it also underscores the critical importance of road safety measures and vigilant driving practices to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
