Snake bites student of Have Senior Tech Institute while going to prep
A student at Have Senior Technical Institute in the Afadjato South District of the Volta Region is fighting for his life after being bitten by a snake while on his way to prep in the evening.
The student, known as Constant, was rushed to the Kpando Government Hospital for treatment after the incident occurred on Saturday, March 11, 2023.
A visit by Yaw Boagyan from Kasapa News revealed that the school has poor lighting, with only four streetlights on the school compound.
This lack of adequate lighting leaves most of the area very dark and dangerous. Some students disclosed in an interview that this was the third time a student had been bitten by a snake while going to learn in the evening.
They have appealed to the District Chief Executive for the Afadjato South District to support them with more streetlights to enhance lighting on campus and make the place safer.
Aside from the lighting issue, the first-year students have inadequate dormitory space, forcing almost all of them to sleep on corridors, in classrooms, and even in the dining hall.
Some students were seen sleeping on their chop boxes and trunks, as they have no other option due to overcrowding in the dormitories.
They claim that the food shortage on campus has also compelled boarders to sneak out to the community at night to buy food to eat.
The school is also facing infrastructural challenges, as the students use classrooms as their dining hall and for other social gatherings due to the lack of an assembly hall.
The students are calling on the government to come to their aid and support them, as the school is facing numerous challenges that need immediate attention from the District Chief Executive, Etornam James Flolu. If not addressed, the school could gradually collapse.
It is crucial that the government and other stakeholders take immediate action to address the challenges that the school is facing.
The safety and well-being of the students should be a top priority, and steps should be taken to ensure that the school provides adequate and safe accommodation, lighting, and food for the students.
The school’s authorities should also ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent snake bites and other safety hazards. By taking these actions, the school can continue to provide quality education to its students and prepare them for a bright future.
