Sogakope Killers Jailed for Life
Sogakope killers jailed for life five years after the brutal murder of Mawutor Adzahli, the Assembly Member for Sogakope, justice has finally been served. Richard Adikyere, a mason who led the deadly gang attack at Adzahli’s home, has been sentenced to life imprisonment. Two of his accomplices, Emmanuel Hedzro and Stephen Adzibolo, have each received 47-year prison terms.
The case was heard at the High Court in Ho, presided over by Justice Daniel Ekow Mensah. All three men denied the charges, which included robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, and murder. However, the court found them guilty based on compelling evidence presented by the prosecution.

According to court documents, Hedzro, who was unemployed at the time, initiated the plot in 2020. He informed Adikyere about a supposed wealthy merchant in Sogakope, who turned out to be the assembly member. Hedzro then took Adikyere to show him the location of Adzahli’s house. Adikyere later assembled a group for the robbery.
Senior State Attorney Andrews Dodzi Adugu told the court that in the early hours of March 1, 2020, Adikyere, Adzibolo, and two others—Obed Ayornu and Michael Sam—broke into the assembly member’s house using cement blocks. Armed with a pump-action shotgun and two pistols, they launched a violent attack.
During the robbery, Adikyere shot Adzahli three times at close range, killing him on the spot. The group then fled the scene with a large amount of cash. A post-mortem at the Sogakope District Hospital confirmed that Adzahli died from head and chest injuries caused by the gunshots.
Police investigations led to the arrest of the accused at various locations, including Ashaiman. During interrogation, Adikyere confessed to pulling the trigger and revealed that the firearm used had been stolen during an earlier robbery.

Meanwhile, four other accomplices—Obed Ayornu, Michael Sam, and twins Samuel and Christian Zotorvi—pleaded guilty in earlier hearings under a plea deal. Each was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The court described the crime as heinous and cold-blooded, emphasizing the cruelty involved in the killing of the assembly member. It also praised the prosecution for presenting strong evidence that left no doubt about the accused persons’ involvement.
In a disturbing moment after the verdict, Adikyere, handcuffed to Hedzro, attempted to attack journalists outside the courtroom who were taking photographs.
This verdict brings some closure to a case that shocked the Sogakope community and the nation, highlighting the importance of justice in the face of such a senseless act of violence.
