MoMo Vendor ‘s Harrowing Robbery Ordeal: Somanya Residents Demand Increased Security
A horrifying incident unfolded in Somanya, Eastern Region, when a mobile money operator fell victim to a daring robbery, sparking fear among local residents. Nsiah Hayford Nii, the victim of the robbery, has come forward to share his terrifying ordeal, hoping that by doing so, he can raise awareness about the dangers that mobile money vendors face.
This distressing incident involved three robbers, including one female, who conducted a brazen robbery at a gas station and a mobile money vendor in the Ogome suburb of Somanya. The incident took place around 6:30 pm on Monday, October 23, 2023.

Nsiah Hayford Nii, who had been operating his business for four years, recounted how a gunman suddenly appeared, brandishing a firearm and demanding his money. He managed to flee the scene, but the assailant entered his shop, ransacked it, and made off with all the cash, including coins, which amounted to about GH¢28,000.
The robbers conducted the terrifying robbery over an eight-minute period, during which they shot indiscriminately, creating panic among everyone present. As they made their escape, they encountered two young men and shot them without any provocation.
This traumatizing incident has left Nsiah Hayford with a deep sense of fear and has also cost him his entire capital, making it extremely challenging to restart his business.
Terrified residents who witnessed the incident are now living in fear and have called for an increased security presence in their community. They no longer feel safe and are appealing for a stronger police presence and the deployment of soldiers to protect the community.
This incident underscores the vulnerability of mobile money vendors and the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect them and their businesses.
