Some Basic School Teachers Laptops Not Supplied After Two Years: Does The GES Care?
It is very disheartening to know that some Basic School Teachers Laptops Not Supplied After Two Years
Since the introduction of the one teacher, one laptop policy and the deduction of the teacher’s portion of the cost from their salaries, many basic school teachers have yet to receive their laptops. The Ghana Education Service has in recent times been silent on how and when it intends to distribute the laptops to the teachers who are still yet to receive value for their hard-earned incomes deducted for this purpose.

Some Basic School Teachers Laptops Not Supplied After Two Years: Does The GES Care?
According to Mr. Samuel Adjei Bishop, a teacher under the Ghana Education Service, some teachers who provide their service in public basic schools have still not received their lap tops. “Primary teachers are yet to receive their laptops after more than 2 years of payments. They need it to teach computing. The theory teaching is not helping. GES primary teachers need their laptops. Thank you,” was the comment he left on the GES’ official Facebook page moments after the GES posted about a new partnership deal between the Ghana Education Service and Vodafone Ghana.
The comment by Mr. Samuel Adjei Bishop opened the flood gates for teachers who were yet to be served to also remind their GES of its failure to supply them with their laptops. Another teacher indicated that Mfantseman primary school teachers were also yet to get their laptops. He asked the GES to tell the teachers the reasons for the delay.

“Mfantseman primary school teachers are yet to get their laptops. Tell us the reasons for the delay,” Mr. Takyi David Desmond indicated.

The fact that some basic school teachers are yet to get the laptops supplied after two years is worrying, especially when they are not also aware of any timelines. Are the teacher unions aware of this, and if yes, how are they working together to get the teachers who find themselves in this situation served?
For teachers who were supplied with the laptops, the quality of the laptops remains a major concern. The laptops are as fragile as eggs. They easily breakdown. More than halve of the teachers have lost theirs due to faults, from case to the smallest internal component.
Many of the teachers feel they have been cheated by our union leaders.
Regarding the quality of service that the telco company would provide, teachers appeared to have mixed feelings about the internet connectivity agreement between GES and Vodafone Ghana. While some educators lamented the poor connectivity, others requested that Vodafone improve their network, which some commentators once more described as having “very poor connectivity.”
Others indicated that the new deal would end up in the form that GES-SIC took. “In the end, it will be GES-SIC rebranded,” a teacher commented.
