Stay off Bawumia, don’t make us angry – Hawa Koomson warns Edward Enin

In a surprising turn of events, former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, Edward Enin, has found himself at the receiving end of a stern warning from none other than the Fisheries Minister, Mavis Hawa Koomson. The subject of this caution? None other than the esteemed Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and his presidential flagbearer ship aspirations. It seems that political turbulence is in the air, and the NPP’s internal dynamics are taking center stage.
Hawa Koomson, a prominent member of the NPP, has taken it upon herself to counsel Mr. Enin, who has been rather vocal in his endorsement of Alan Kyerematen, a former contestant in the NPP flagbearership race. It’s worth noting that Alan Kyerematen withdrew from the race and even parted ways with the party. However, Enin’s support for Kyerematen remains unwavering.
The spark that ignited this political flare-up was Mr. Enin’s recent appearance on Okay FM, during which he made a startling allegation. On October 27, he claimed that Vice President Bawumia’s camp was allegedly engaging in bribery to sway delegates in their favor ahead of the impending November 4 presidential primaries. This controversial statement prompted Hawa Koomson to intervene.
The Fisheries Minister, taking to the airwaves herself, aimed to set the record straight and sent a resounding message to Mr. Enin: “He should have some discipline and stay off Dr. Bawumia, who is the choice of the party. Enin is on record to have said his candidate is Alan; he should focus on his candidate and remove Bawumia’s name from his mouth.”

Furthermore, Hawa Koomson accused Mr. Enin of playing the dangerous game of tribal politics by repeatedly targeting Bawumia. She pointed out that allegations of corruption within the government apparatus, which Enin seemed to allude to, would not only implicate Vice President Bawumia but also Alan Kyerematen himself.
Hawa Koomson’s message resonated strongly with regional sentiments, as she proudly proclaimed, “I am a 100% northern woman.” Her concern was clear: Enin’s actions risked alienating voters from the northern and Volta regions, which are vital for securing victory for the NPP. She called on him to refocus his energy and leave Bawumia alone.
The political landscape within the NPP has become increasingly complex, with multiple contenders vying for the flagbearership slot. Notably, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong has entered the race, joining Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis-Addai-Nimoh. The party has scheduled November 4, 2023, as the date for selecting a successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the party’s leader.
As the NPP navigates these turbulent political waters, the warning from Hawa Koomson serves as a stark reminder that unity within the party is essential for success in the upcoming presidential primaries and beyond. The stakes are high, and the outcome of this internal battle will have far-reaching consequences for the party’s future.
