Sunyani Teaching Hospital sod cutting ceremony a hoax – Mintah Akandoh
The ceremony for the conversion of Bono Regional Hospital into Sunyani Teaching Hospital, spearheaded by Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu, faces accusations of deceit and manipulation from Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Member of Parliament for Juaboso and Ranking Member on Health.
In a strongly worded statement representing the Minority in Parliament, Akandoh declared the Sunyani Teaching Hospital sod-cutting ceremony a charade, asserting that the recently revealed 2024 government budget contained no provisions for the construction or expansion of the Sunyani hospital.
Akandoh underscored the apparent lack of a clear government policy, financial allocations, or political dedication to support such a significant expansion of the healthcare facility.

According to him, the Minister was well aware of the omission from the 2024 budget, implying that the groundbreaking event was a theatrical maneuver orchestrated by the government to deceive the people of Bono and the entire nation.

In addition to questioning the authenticity of the ceremony, Akandoh raised concerns about its timing, taking place during an ongoing International Monetary Fund (IMF) program and as the country approaches an election year.

The suspicious nature of the event becomes even more pronounced considering the Sunyani Teaching Hospital absence from the budget, suggesting a potential disconnect between ceremonial gestures and tangible government plans.
To substantiate his claims, Akandoh reminded the public of the government’s history of unfulfilled promises, citing instances such as the demolition of the operational La General Hospital and an Accident and Emergency Centre at the Dormaa Hospital, which were followed by a failure to provide promised funding for similar projects.
This history, according to Akandoh, adds weight to the skepticism surrounding the legitimacy of the Sunyani Teaching Hospital groundbreaking ceremony, casting doubt on the government’s commitment to its healthcare infrastructure promises.
