The 2024 WASSCE Results Have Been Released By WAEC and Accessible Online.

The 2024 WASSCE Results were Released After Days and Months of Expectation. The West African Examination Council (WAEC), Ghana, has released the 2024 WASSCE results as of now.

The 2024 WASSCE Results have been released to all public and private candidates across the nation. The delay in the release of the 2024 WASSCE results has caused almost all tertiary institutions to reschedule their opening date for all freshmen.

Earlier this week, the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, addressed the public in an interview on the expected date of the release, and he also addressed the concerns of the public concerning the debt the government owes WAEC.

2024 WASSCE results date announced by MoE not feasible – WAEC

2024 WASSCE Results date announced by MoE not feasible

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Refutes Minister’s Statement on 2024 WASSCE Results Release Date

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed claims by the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, that the 2024 WASSCE results will be released on or before December 29, 2024. According to Mr. Kapi John, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, the council cannot meet the stated timeline due to unresolved financial and logistical constraints.

In an interview with GTV, as reported by Ghana Education News, Mr. Kapi disclosed that WAEC has so far received only GHS25 million out of the GHS118 million owed by the government. He added that although WAEC requested an additional GHS35 million to expedite the process, the government did not respond.

“The GHS25 million received was used to settle arrears owed to technicians who were reluctant to repair the malfunctioning objective test marking machines,” Mr. Kapi explained. “We have invited technicians to assess the broken machines and provide repair estimates, which we will then report to the government.”

Addressing Dr. Adutwum’s announcement, Mr. Kapi clarified that releasing the results on December 29, 2024, is not feasible. He stated, “The council will announce a new timeline for the release of the results to the public and the students who took the exams.”

WAEC has indicated that the results delay is unavoidable and that the earliest possible release date would be in January 2025. This delay will affect institutions planning to admit 2024 WASSCE graduates.

Private schools, however, are urging WAEC to release their students’ results since they directly paid the full cost of the examination to WAEC and should not be affected by government-related challenges. WAEC has yet to issue a response to this demand.

This situation has raised concerns among stakeholders, highlighting the importance of timely resolution of WAEC’s financial and logistical challenges to avoid further disruptions.

Don’t expect 2024 WASSCE results this year – WAEC

WASSCE results will be out

The latest heartbreaking update for 2024 WASSCE candidates from WAEC is: “Don’t expect 2024 WASSCE results this year.” This statement sums up the predicament school candidates who sat for the WASSCE exam find themselves in, due to the government’s failure to settle its financial obligations to WAEC.

As a result, graduates who were expected to start their tertiary education in January 2024 will now have to wait a bit longer, possibly until 2025, for their results to be released. In 2023, WAEC released the WASSCE results on December 18th. However, this is not the case for the 2024 batch.

WAEC has made it public that, due to financial constraints, the results of the WASSCE for school candidates will be delayed. This is because it has not completed all the post-exam processes required to release the results.

The Head of Public Relations at WAEC, John Kapi, speaking to Adom News (as reported by GhanaEducation.Org), stated that the council is yet to receive the funds the Government of Ghana owes it for conducting examinations for students.

This situation also means that the delay in releasing results will affect even private WASSCE candidates, who paid their exam fees in full, due to the government’s failure to pay the fees for public SHS candidates for the same examination.

According to Mr. Kapi, approximately GH₵118 million is owed to the council by the Government of Ghana. He further explained that the issue is highly complicated, as the council needs at least GH₵25 million to repair malfunctioning scanners required for processing objective test results.

The council originally planned to complete the results processing and release them within the first 14 days of 2024. However, due to the current financial constraints, the release date will have to be pushed to January 2024.

Unfortunately, WAEC is scheduled to break for the Christmas holidays from December 20th, 2024. If the government releases the funds, WAEC would need to recall its staff during the holidays to complete the processes and release the results.

Mr. Kapi emphasized that there is no way the council can work on the results and release them without the necessary funds. This means the longer the delay in releasing the funds, the longer students, parents, and universities waiting for the results will have to wait.

He further expressed his concern over the current situation, stating that the council has never faced such frustration leading to a delay in releasing results until now.

The information from WAEC, “Don’t expect 2024 WASSCE results this year,” is an indication that WAEC cannot do anything about the current situation and that the government has failed the youth of this nation. It is time students, parents, and all stakeholders add their voice to the urgent call for the government to release funds to help WAEC do its work. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has received only GHS15 million out of the GHS118 million required to complete the 2024 WASSCE result processing for school candidates.

While the amount received is inadequate, the council will need additional funds and support to finalize the results. The GHS15 million paid represents approximately 12.71% of the GHS118 million owed to WAEC by the government.

WAEC has announced that the delay in releasing the 2024 WASSCE results is due to financial constraints. Despite receiving some funds, the council requires more to complete the process.

John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs, has urged candidates and parents to remain calm as efforts are underway to release the results as soon as possible.

In a related development, Mr. Kofi Asare of Africa Education Watch has called for reforms to transfer the responsibility of WASSCE exam fee payments to parents. This, he believes, would ensure that WAEC is adequately resourced for future examinations. He suggested that the Free SHS program, which provides each student with GHS400, could support this solution.

In a related development, a reliable source has disclosed to this portal that WAEC is likely to release the WASSCE results before Christmas. WAEC is expected to release the results to enable universities to complete their admission processes for all students who applied for Level 100 programs.

Without the results, it will be technically impossible for universities to carry out this important process, which sets the tone for the start of the 2024-2025 academic year for all institutions admitting first-year students.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) is Expected to Delay 2024 WASSCE Results Until Key Events Unfold In December.

The release of the 2024 WASSCE results is expected in December 2024 for final-year students who sat for the WAEC-administered exam in Ghana. These results, once released, will enable students to complete their university admission applications online or apply for admission, though this process is not expected to happen immediately.

WAEC to Delay 2024 WASSCE Results: But what are the events that must occur before WAEC releases the 2024 WASSCE results?

As Ghana prepares for the much-anticipated December 7, 2024, elections, WAEC will not be able to release the results before the presidential and parliamentary polls on that date.

Additionally, WAEC will not release the 2024 WASSCE results for school candidates until after the results of the presidential elections are declared.

We project that the WASSCE results will not be announced until the elections are over and the Electoral Commission has declared the presidential results. WAEC is unlikely to release the results amidst the mixed emotions that typically follow elections (among both winners and losers).

However, once the post-election environment stabilizes, WAEC is expected to announce the release of the WASSCE results. Keep an eye on this portal for updates on the specific release date, which we anticipate will be within three days after the election results are declared.

2024 WASSCE Results: Ghana to Lose WAEC Headquarters to Nigeria Over GHS73m Debt

Ghana to Lose WAEC Headquarters to Nigeria Over GHS73m Debt

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Ghana risks losing its status as WAEC’s international headquarters to Nigeria due to an alarming GHS73 million debt owed by the government of Ghana.

WAEC’s financial stability has been severely impacted since the government began financing the examination fees for BECE and WASSCE candidates in public schools. While this policy has alleviated the financial burden on parents, frequent delays in government payments have disrupted WAEC’s operations, often causing delays in the marking and release of BECE and WASSCE results.

Funds owed to WAEC by the Government of Ghana as of 20th November 2024 was estimated at 155.86 million. Some of the debts date back to the 2022 WASSCE. As of December 2022, the government owed WAEC 9.97 million. In 2023, WAEC was owed additional 30.49 million. By the end of the 2024 BECE and WASSE government’s debt went up by an additional $4.94 million.

The fate of the 2024 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results hangs in the balance as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) grapples with a crippling debt exceeding GH₵155 million owed by the government.

For instance, in 2024, WAEC had to wait until the eleventh hour for government funding to mark the 2024 BECE scripts. This led to delays in releasing results since marking was postponed at least twice. The council now faces mounting financial pressure, jeopardizing its ability to carry out its core functions effectively.

GhanaEducation.org has learned that Ghana may soon lose WAEC’s international headquarters status to Nigeria if the government does not settle the outstanding debt. This development poses significant risks to WAEC Ghana’s reputation and its capacity to maintain smooth examination processes.

WAEC is urgently appealing to the government to clear the debt to ensure its continued operations and safeguard its international standing. If the government delays in paying the current GHS73 million owed WAEC, the results of WASSCE (SC) will delay, and that will also delay admissions into universities across the country.
