Teachers affordable housing units to be considered in 2022 budget
Ghana Education News, August 19, 2020: Teachers affordable housing units to be considered in 2022 budget
Francis Asenso-Boakye, Minister of Works and Housing, will shortly submit a proposal to the Ministry of Finance for the building of affordable housing units as part of the government’s attempt to enhance the welfare of teachers.
It’s worth noting that the UNOPS (United Nations Office for Project Service) and the government have struck an agreement to build 100,000 housing units for teachers.
This comes after a meeting with the Ministries of Finance and Education, as well as representatives from teacher unions, on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, to discuss the planned initiative to help the unions with housing units.
According to Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, the project’s financial proposal would be worked on by a group led by Abdulai Abanga, the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing.
The teacher unions project’s full financial plan will be given to the Finance Minister for consideration in next year’s Budget.
“The Minister has formed a committee chaired by the Deputy Minister, Abdulai Abanga to come out with a financial proposal of the project for a formal presentation to the Finance Minister for consideration in 2022 Budget,” he stated.
