Teaching at the senior high school in Ghana gives teachers the unique opportunity to guide students on the verge of becoming adults. There are a lot of benefits associated with teaching in a senior high school in Ghana. They include;
1. Intervention
Teachers and non-teaching staff in all senior high schools receive an amount of money each year known as ‘Intervention’. The monies are given to SHS headmasters to be shared amongst teachers. Such monies are usually received during the first three months of each year. The amount given to each teacher ranges from ¢400 to ¢1,000(it could be more)
2. Allowance for form masters, house masters, senior house masters/mistreses, Counsellors, Physical education teachers. Teachers with specific positions are given extra amount of money. This is added to their monthly salary automatically.

3. PTA motivation fees.
Even though it doesn’t really occur these days, some schools enjoy some monies from PTA(now PA). Parents organize themselves, contribute something to be given to teachers.
4. Long vacation which helps you to do your business. However, this doesn’t favour some teachers due to the double track system. Due to this, some teachers go on break only in December.
5. Extra classes and long vacation classes. Some teachers organize extra classes for students and earn something from it.
6. You only go to school when you have lesson. Even though, this is not approved by GES, some teachers do rest and only go to school when they have class or when they are on duty.

7. You will get time to do your master or Mphil.
8. You may even get accommodation on campus so it saves you from renting and water bills.
9. Free breakfast and lunch(not all schools enjoy this offer)
10. Maturity of students
High schoolers can learn with a certain level of autonomy. This gives teachers the ability to focus on guiding students toward their own learning discoveries. Older students also develop stronger critical thinking skills to investigate topics in more depth. This kind of student interaction is ideal for teachers who enjoy planning high-level content with room for discussion and debate
