Who Takes More Salary Between Teachers And Police Officers In Ghana

Who takes the bigger salary between a Ghanaian teacher and a police officer has been the debate on the table for quite some time now. Some believe that teachers do take higher salaries than police officers, while others think otherwise.
We have got you covered. We have all the facts and details here that will help end the debate for the time being.

SALARY OF A TEACHER

All teachers under the Ghana Education Service are being paid based on ranks. The ranks are determined by the promotional level of the teacher.

Newly recruited teachers who are diploma holders are automatically absorbed onto the Senior Superintendent II rank of a base salary level/scale of PSH14 by the Ghana Education Service (GES) whilst Degree Holders are put on the Principal Superintendent rank of salary level/scale PSH16

Newly Employed teachers at GES with degree certificate take a gross salary ranging from ¢2,890 to ¢3,050.

The 2023 base pay increment has pushed the salary of newly employed diploma teachers up to GHS 2.239.96. The salary range of Senior Superintendent Il staff is between GHS 2,066.49 (Low) and GHS 2,428.69(high). However, as time goes on, teachers are being paid a higher salary. Some experienced teachers take a gross pay of more than ¢5,000.

However, we are going to use the ¢2,890 to ¢3,050 salary to end this debate since degree in teaching is the new criteria.

SALARY OF A POLICE OFFICER

Just like teachers, Police officers in Ghana are also paid based on ranks. The higher the rank, the higher the salary.

A person who works as a Police Officer
in Ghana will typically earn a monthly
salary of approximately 2,860 GHS. The
lowest starting salary is 1,320 GHS,
while the highest possible salary is
4,550 GHS.
While a newly recruited WASSCE result
holder is given the rank of Constable
and a monthly salary of GhC700, the
WASSCE is required in order to be
eligible for employment.

Police officers are being paid some allowances. Teachers on the other hand are paid just one Allowance in a year, and that is ¢100 per month. This is accumulated till the end of the year and paid to them at ¢1,200.

FINAL WORDS

Teachers do take higher salaries than Police Officers in Ghana. However, Police officers do earn more than teachers. Thus, if you add their salaries to the allowances they take.
