Term 2 Reopening Date For Basic Schools And SHS
Public basic schools in Ghana will officially end the first term of the 2023/2024 academic year on Friday, 22nd December, 2023. Let’s take a look at the term 2 reopening date for basic schools as well as SHS.
BASIC SCHOOLS
The second term of the 2023/2024 academic year starts from 9th January, 2024 and end on 11th April, 2024. Vacation dates for second semester is from 12th April, 2024 to 29th April, 2024.
Below is the full 2023/2024 academic calendar for Basic Schools
First Term
Schools will resume on 3rd October, 2023 and end on 22nd December, 2024. Students will then go on break from 23rd December, 2023 to 8th January, 2024.

Second Term
Second term will resume on 9th January, 2024 and end on 11th April, 2024. Students will then go on break from 12th April, 2024 to 29th April, 2024.
Third Term
The third term will start on 30th April, 2024 and end on 25th July, 2024. JHS 3 students are expected to write their BECE in July, 2024.

SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS (SHS)
As you already know, Senior High Schools in Ghana have been grouped into two; single track schools and transitional/double track schools. Vacation dates and Reporting for these schools are different.
Let’s take a look at the term 2 or second Semester reopening date for SHS.
Currently, the first semester for all senior high schools in the 2023/2024 academic year will end in March, 2024. SHS 2 students in double track schools will resume their first semester on 8th March, 2024.
All single track schools (all levels) will end their first semester in March, 2024.
The Ghana Education Service has advised SHS 3 students, who are currently preparing to write their WASSCE to study. According to him, the 2024 WASSCE is likely to be written early.
What candidates needs to do is to study past questions. One secret most candidates doesn’t know about the WASSCE is that, WAEC doesn’t really set new questions. About 90% of all WASSCE questions are all past questions. WAEC usually frame the questions to make it new, but it’ s a past question.
Constant reading, preparation and looking for additional materials on the subject matter will broaden your mind, understanding and make your answers richer d unique. Do not over depend on your tutor, do more for your self and increase your understanding. Today, almost everything you are learning is available on the internet.
