Latest update from the GES to all teachers and students of public schools: GES Breaks Silence Gives Term 2 Vacation Date for Public Schools.
Following the COLA strike and its disruption of the academic work of Pre-tertiary schools, Ghana Education News proposed a 10-day extension of the school period, however, the GES has officially broken its silence on the issue.
According to the GES, “The Basic schools calendar released in March of this year remains the same. Please be reminded that vacation for the second term is 11th August 2022.
Thank you.” the official communication from the GES stated.
At the start of the academic year, the Ghana Education Service released a semester timetable for basic schools up to the KG level. This was rejected by teachers through the teacher unions, compelling the GES to reverse to the traditional trimester (3 terms) format.
All public basic schools are expected to vacate on 11th August. Thus, teachers would have to work hard to make up for the 10 days lost as a result of the Cost of Living Allowance strike, which started on 4th July and ended on 14th July.
The strike led to a 15% COLA approval, which is expected to be paid from July to December 2022. The first COLA is expected to be paid in August as arrears plus that of August.
