Thank you for providing us with more classrooms and chairs – Student appreciates Akufo-Addo
Adutwumwaa Fokuo, a student at Bosomtwe Girls Senior High School, has taken a moment to publicly acknowledge and thank President Nana Akufo-Addo for his impactful contributions to the educational sector in Ghana by providing more classrooms and chairs.
Her expression of gratitude came during a significant occasion, the launch of the “1 student, 1 tablet” initiative on March 25, 2024, at the International Conference Centre, an event underscoring the government’s commitment to integrating technology into learning environments through the Ministry of Education.
Fokuo’s words echoed the sentiments of many students and teachers across the nation, who have directly benefited from the government’s educational reforms, most notably the Free Senior High School (SHS) program initiated in September 2017.
This policy marked a transformative step towards making secondary education accessible to all, irrespective of socio-economic background.
Fokuo’s address highlighted not just the provision of digital tablets, but also the broader spectrum of resources that have been made available – from the construction of additional classrooms to the distribution of furniture, uniforms, textbooks, and even laptops for teachers.
By referring to President Akufo-Addo with endearing terms such as “Daddy” and “Grand Daddy,” Fokuo personalized the gratitude felt by the student body, portraying the President as a patriarchal figure who has taken tangible steps to enhance the educational landscape in Ghana.
The conversion of traditional schools into smart schools, as mentioned by Fokuo, illustrates a forward-thinking approach to education, preparing Ghanaian students for the challenges and opportunities of the digital age.

The “1 student, 1 tablet” initiative is a testament to the government’s dedication to embedding ICT in education, recognizing that digital literacy is crucial for the current generation of students to compete globally.
This initiative, along with the earlier reforms, signifies a comprehensive effort to not only remove financial barriers to education but also to improve the quality and relevance of education in Ghana.
While the Free SHS program and related initiatives have faced implementation challenges, the positive feedback from beneficiaries like Fokuo provides a reminder of the transformative impact these policies can have on individual lives and communities.
Through these efforts, the Akufo-Addo administration is laying down a foundation for socio-economic development, driven by an educated and empowered youth.
