The Life and Career of Football Manager Chris Hughton

Former professional football player turned manager Chris Hughton was born on December 11, 1958, in London, England.

He played as a left-back for several clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, and Brentford. With Tottenham, he won the FA Cup in 1981 and the UEFA Cup in 1984.

After retiring in 1993, Hughton transitioned to coaching, starting as an assistant at Tottenham before becoming the first-team coach.

In 2008, he took over as manager of Newcastle United, leading them to Premier League promotion in his first season and winning the Championship Manager of the Year award.

Hughton has also managed Birmingham City, Norwich City (where he earned promotion to the Premier League in 2011), and Brighton & Hove Albion, establishing the latter as a Premier League club. In 2021, he became head coach of the Ghana national football team, the Black Stars.

Known for his ability to build and develop teams, especially in lower divisions, Hughton is recognized for his calm demeanor and respected by players and fans.

He’s widely considered one of the most successful managers in the English football league system.
