The plight of UEW two-year post-diploma program students who were admitted for the Counselling Psychology programme in 2019 have been non-ending from day one.
The information available to Ghana Education News from a press release sighted indicates students have countless challenges in accessing their results and certificates.
Mr. Joseph Kuusogre and Mr. Jerry Akporhor Student who are the Counsellors Executives of the affected leaders have called on the University of Education Winniba to take proactive action without delay in ensuring students of the Counselling Psychology programme are issued with the necessary documents and certificates just like all graduates of the university.
According to the student leaders, the obstacles they have battled with started in 2019 when they started their application process. In 2019, the students applied for the two-year post-diploma program in counselling psychology via sandwich mode.
However, their admission was delayed until July 2020, and they had no option but to complete their year 1 programme (first and second sessions) constituting the first year, in the same year.
Per the arrangements outlined officially for the programme, the students were supposed to complete their final session in 2021 and then graduate, but did their third session only in 2021. According to the students, they struggled to complete the programme in July 2022.
“Unfortunately, our problems were not over, as we anticipated being added to the 26th graduation,” the statement said.
Some of the other worrying issues were
- Students being compelled to wait for another eight months since they finished their coursework.
- They are yet to receive their results, transcripts, and graduation date.
There were also issues relating to the non-provision of their Student ID by the school.
“Before now, we had trouble getting our student numbers. We eventually did get the numbers but still haven’t received our student ID cards which we paid for.” the release stated.
Although the students are through with their programme, many of them cannot boast of admission letters.
“Some of our colleagues haven’t still received PDF copies of their admission letters, except for the email alerts and text messages they got.” the statement indicated.
The students have had to virtually beg to know their results, and the university portal has never been opened to them to register for courses like regular students.
According to the students, every time they are directed to use the registration portal, they were not able to use it since they were denied access for reasons that have never been explained.
The inability of the graduates of the two-year post-diploma program in counselling psychology to receive their certificates has had a negative impact on them.
“The delay in receiving our transcripts has negatively impacted some of our colleagues’ ability to seek sponsorship while pursuing the program.” The release further disclosed.
The graduates are unable to apply for promotions, scholarships, and further studies due to the UEW’s inability to issue their certificates.
The students have described the development as worrying, and every effort to get the bottlenecks resolved has yielded no results.
“This situation is unfair, and we’ve tried all available options to resolve our issues, but it seems everyone keeps tossing us from one office to another. From admission to graduation, we have nothing to be proud of. We are in the fourth year pursuing a 2 years program.”
“In summary, the prolonged delay in accessing our results, transcripts, certificates, and student ID cards is unacceptable, and we urge the relevant authorities to expedite action to enable us to graduate and move on with our lives.”
The sad Plight of UEW Students in Accessing The Results and Certificates needs proactive and efficient administrative processes to settle the matters raised by the students. and the university must provide result-oriented leadership to deal with the issues.
