This Is A Brief Summary Of What Happened In Parliament Today

This is a brief summary of what happened in Parliament today. The Deputy Majority leader, Afenyo Markins, gave his preliminary objection to the move by the Minority Leader to initiate the vote of censure against the Finance Minister. The Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament Alexander Afenyo-Markin challenged the motion of the Minority on the basis that the Finance Minister will suffer injustice if the House goes ahead with the application.
“These matters, upon proper scrutiny, are criminal in nature. The Minister should be given a fair hearing. If we go ahead with the application we will be doing a lot of injustice to our colleague. If this application is allowed it will be injustice and unfairness, the Minister wouldn’t have been given adequate time to prepare for his defense,” Afenyo Markins argued
There was a to-and-fro debate on this matter between the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Afenyo Markins, and Mahama Ayariga, MP for the Bawku Central constituency.
The Speaker of Parliament gave a ruling on this issue. Based on consultations and recommendations from the leaderships on both side, Alban Bagbin constituted an ad-hoc committee which will be co-chaired by Dr. Dominic Ayine and KT Hammond. Basically, the committee is to investigate the allegations against the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta. The members of the committee aside from the chairmen include three members each from the majority and minority groups in Parliament. Alban Bagbin directed that the committee complete and submit the report within 7 working days. Alban Bagbin explained that the Finance Minister can come along with his counsel.
