Thursday 7th March Always Declared Holiday For Schools
Is Thursday, March 7th, always a holiday for schools?
Wednesday, March 6th, has officially been declared a holiday for Ghanaians. It is Ghana’s 67th Independence Day anniversary. Has Thursday, March 7th, also been declared a holiday for schools?
In 2023, the Ghana Education Service officially declared Wednesday, March 7th, a holiday for schools. This followed the Independence Day celebration held on March 6, in which students across the country participated. The Ghana Education Service (GES) released a press statement that contained this.
For the past 15 years, the 7th of March has always been a holiday for children and teachers, irrespective of whether the schools they attend or work in participate in any 6th of March activity.
The attempt by some private school owners to compel teachers and students to report to school on March 7th is out of place and must be ignored. The GES must also remain proactive and declare this day a holiday for schools as soon as the government officially declares March 6th a holiday.
It is expected that March 7, 2024, will be declared a public holiday for schools. Although the GES has yet to make a statement, parents should not be under pressure to send their children to school on March 7. The Ghana Armed Forces has declared an open day for all schoolchildren on March 7, 2024, because they know it is supposed to be a holiday for schools and that schoolchildren are taken to military facilities on this day by teachers and schools to learn more about the military. March 7th has always been a holiday for schools and will be a holiday in 2024.
Ghana’s 6th March Independence Day anniversary stands as a beacon of national pride and historical significance. Marking the country’s liberation from colonial rule in 1957, this day symbolises the culmination of Ghana’s arduous struggle for self-governance and sovereignty.
