Today in History: On 5th January, 2012, The Progressive People’s Party submitted an application for registration

Progressive People’s Party(PPP) was officially formed by Papa Kwasi Ndoum follow a declaration of on 28th August, December 2011.

The name of the Party which is translated in Akan language as (Ko anim omanfo Apontow) officially submitted it documents to the Electoral Commission of Ghana for acceptance as a political party in Ghana that aimed at capturing political power through elections.

The Progressive People’s Party went for it first delegates conference on 25th February 2012 at Accra Sports Stadium with intention of mobilizing people ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Papa Kwasi Ndoum, the founder of Progressive People’s Party, was then the flag bearer of Nkrumah’s Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the 2008 polls before he formed his own in 2012.

It is alleged that Papa Kwasi Ndoum separated himself from the CPP because of disagreement with the Party executives led by Samia Nkrumah, Daughter of the First president of Ghana.

The Progressive People’s Party aimed at implementing and improving an agenda for change in all sectors in the economy.

The Party receives it official certificate from the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) on 3rd February 2012.

During the 2012 general election, the progressive People’s Party presented their founder, Papa Kwasi Ndoum, as their flag bearer. The Party pulled 64,267 votes in their first election race, which was encouraging.

The running mate was Brigitte Dzogbenuku, who worked harder to become the first woman flag bearer of the Party during the 2020 elections.

Progressive People’s Party is considered as the second-largest opposition in Ghana.
