Let’s take a look at the top 10 best Science SHS in Ghana. These schools have proved over the years to have good academic performances in science. These schools are well equipped with modern science laboratories due to their academic outputs.

They include the following;

1. Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School

Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) is a prestigious secondary boarding school for boys, in Legon, Accra, Ghana. It is the best school in Ghana and also the best science school in the country. The school has proved it over the years to be the best in Ghana. It was founded in 1938, under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church of the Gold Coast.

2. St Augustine College

St. Augustine’s College is an all-male academic institution in Cape Coast, Ghana. It is the second best science school in Ghana. The school started at Amissano, a village near Elmina, in 1930. The Roman Catholic institution was established to serve as a training college and seminary.

3. Achimota School

Achimota School is regarded as one of the best co-educational school in Ghana. It is the third best science school in Ghana. The school offers a broad and balanced GES-based curriculum that meets the needs of all students, with facilities that enable the teaching and learning of General Science, General Arts, Agricultural Science, Visual Arts, and Home Economics.

The school is a category ‘A’ school, located in Achimota in the Greater Accra region of Ghana. Since its founding in 1927, Achimota School has been the measure of education in Ghana. The school has won the NSMQ twice(2004 and 1998).

4. Prempeh College

Prempeh College is a public secondary school for boys located in Kumasi, the capital city of the Ashanti Region, Ghana. It is often regarded as the best SHS in the Ashanti region. It is the fourth best science school in Ghana.

The school was founded in 1949 by the Asanteman traditional authority, the British Colonial Government, the Methodist Church Ghana, and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana

5. Opoku Ware SHS

Opoku Ware School, often referred to as OWASS, is an all-boys high school in Santasi, a suburb of Kumasi, which is the capital of the Ashanti region of Ghana. It is often known as the rivalry school of Prempeh College. Opoku Ware SHS is the fifth best science school in Ghana.

6. Mfantsipim SHS

Mfantsipim is an all-boys boarding secondary school in Cape Coast, Ghana. It was established by the Methodist Church in 1876 to foster intellectual, moral, and spiritual growth on the then Gold Coast. It is number six on the list.

7. Wesley Girls

Wesley Girls’ Senior High School(SHS) is an educational institution for girls in Cape Coast. It happens to be the most beautiful senior high school in Ghana. It is the best science girls’ school in Ghana and number seven in Ghana.

The school was founded in 1836 by Harriet Wrigley, the wife of a Methodist minister. The school is named after the founder of Methodism, John Wesley. The school is currently 187 years old.

8. Adisadel College

Adisadel College, popularly known as “ADISCO”, is an Anglican boys’ boarding school in Cape Coast, Ghana. Key aspects of the school’s administration and curriculum were originally modelled on the English public school system during the colonial era. It is number eight on the list.

9. Swedru SHS

Swedru Senior High School, popularly known as SWESCO is the first Ghana Education Trust school established by, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, in 1959. The school is located at Agona Swedru, in the central region of Ghana. With the motto ‘Semper cum Optimis,’ a Latin expression meaning ‘Always with the best’, Swesco has maintained its credible performance particularly in the West African Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE), making it the best senior high school (SHS) among the eight high schools in the Agona area. It is the ninth best science school in Ghana.

10. Aburi Girls

Aburi Girls’ Senior High School is an all-girls senior high boarding school located south of Aburi in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The school was founded in 1946. It is the 10th best school in Ghana.

It should be noted that most of these schools are category A schools.
