Tragic Crash Claims Lives Of Two Ghanaian Graduate Students In The US

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, two people died and three others were injured in a terrible collision involving a car and an SUV. According to Lance Cpl. Nick Pye, the collision happened in Pickens County around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.

According to Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley, Alberta Oduraa Quartey, 23, a KNUST alumna and Telecommunication Engineer, and Abena Gyamfua, 31, both Clemson residents, tragically died from blunt force trauma.

When a 2021 Jeep SUV travelling north collided with a 2006 BMW sedan travelling south on S.C. 11 close to the intersection with Elizabeth Drive, Quartey and Gyamfua were the passengers in the vehicle.

According to Pye, the SUV’s driver, along with the driver and another passenger in the vehicle, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. They did not provide any additional updates on their health.

There is still no information on whether the crash participants were wearing seat belts or not.

The Highway Patrol is currently looking into what caused the collision, and no other information about its circumstances has been made public.

According to Clemson University, Quartey and Gyamfua are both Ghanaian graduate students, WYFF reported.

According to the victims’ LinkedIn profiles, Gyamfua was enrolled in a master’s program in education, while Quartey was pursuing a PhD in electrical engineering.

According to WYFF, Vice President and Dean of Students Chris Miller expressed the university’s sorrow and mourning over the tragic deaths.

Oduraa Quartey was a YouTuber and content producer who specialized in providing advice on how to study in the USA. She had been studying in the USA for 11 months at this point.

This is indeed a tragic and devastating news to all Ghanaians and to the families of this tragic incident. May their souls rest in the ‘bossom’ of the Lord.
