TTAG denies increment of teacher trainees allowance from GHC400 to GHC800
The leadership of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has denied the claim that the central government has approved the increment of teacher trainees allowance from GHC400.00 to GHC800.00.
In a statement sighted by GhanaEducation.org, It said it has not received any formal information about an increment of the Teacher Trainees’ Allowances, neither has the Ministry of Education made any intention of an increment known to the Association.
“However, on July 4, 2024, we submitted a proposal for an increment of the Teacher Trainees’ Allowances but unfortunately, the Ministry of Education has not acted on it.
We wish to set the records straight that, the government still owes Teacher Trainees in all Forty-Six (46) Public Colleges of Education Four (4) months of allowance arrears for the Second Semester of the 2023/2024 academic year which ended on October 11, 2024.
We appeal to the Government through the Ministry of Education (MoE) to pay the allowance arrears and consider our request for an increment to support our education.
We trust that the Government will recognize the urgency of this matter and respond in the interest of empowering all Teacher Trainees’ across the country,” the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana said in the statement.
The report of the student teachers allowance increase comes after the Teacher Trainee Association in a Communique and Resolution statement on its 28th Annual General Assembly said it has submitted a proposal for the allowance increment.
The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) said it has resolved an increase in the teacher trainees allowance from GHC400.00 to GHC800.00 to alleviate the financial challenges faced by trainees.
The allowance increase was discussed at the 28th General Assembly of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana held under the theme “Prioritising long term Initiatives in Colleges of Education and Ridging Policy with Practice: The Role of Stakeholders”
