All is set for the reopening of schools for all basic schools on Monday, April 21, 2026. The final term of the 2025/2026 academic year ends July 23, 2026. The Term 3 – 13 Weeks Breakdown for Teachers and Schools

During the 13 weeks of school activities, teachers and students will enjoy up to 3 holidays. Their first will be May Day (Workers’ Day), followed by Eid al-Adha on May 27. The final public holiday in the term will be Republic Day on July 1. For all these holidays, the Minister of the Interior will have to release a press statement to confirm them.

Exactly two weeks after schools reopen, the 2026 BECE will commence on Monday, 4th May, and end on 11th May, 2026. Based on best practices, schools that will be used as examination centres will have a 6-day break from 4th to 11th May to pave the way for their schools to be used as BECE examination centres. Teachers will engage in active learning for not more than 10 weeks, from week 1 to 10, while the 11th week will be used for revision of the year’s lessons towards the term 3 promotional examinations. In the 12th week, examinations will commence, and then schools will vacate on 21st July, 2026.
