TTU Praised for Quality Education During 70th Anniversary Celebration

Celebrating 70 years of transformative education, Takoradi Technical University (TTU) was lauded for its enduring commitment to academic excellence and societal relevance in technical and vocational education.
During the official launch of the university’s 70th-anniversary celebrations, Eastern Regional Minister Mr. Seth Kwame Acheampong, an alumnus of TTU, delivered the keynote address, commending the university for its strategic vision in education.
Under the theme “70 years of Societal Relevance; Projecting Excellences and Innovation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training,” TTU was praised for its proactive approach in integrating teaching, research, community service, innovation, and industrialization into its curriculum.
Minister Acheampong highlighted the importance of evolving academic programs to include cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and advanced manufacturing, preparing students for future careers and enhancing their contributions to the global economy.
Furthermore, TTU was encouraged to amplify its research efforts, particularly in environmental sustainability, to attract international grants and contribute to national development.

The university was urged to maintain its high standards in education, promote integrity, and foster a culture of accountability among students, faculty, and staff.
Originally established as a Technical Institute in 1954, TTU has undergone significant transformations, becoming a Polytechnic in 1992 and eventually a Technical University in 2016.
Its rich history of providing quality technical education and practical training has positioned its graduates as key contributors across various industries, including oil and gas, construction, and telecommunications, thereby driving Ghana’s economic development.

TTU’s involvement in community development and its global partnerships for research were also acknowledged as vital elements of its success.
The Minister emphasized the importance of community engagement and the Programmes Advisory Committee (PAC) system, which integrates industry feedback into curriculum development, ensuring that education aligns with modern industrial needs.
As TTU marks this significant milestone, stakeholders, including alumni and government officials, are called to support and ensure the university’s continued leadership in technical and vocational education in Ghana and beyond.
The anniversary celebrations will include activities focusing on health, sanitation, sports, community service, and industry engagement, further underscoring TTU’s commitment to societal improvement and educational excellence.
