Tuesday is a Holiday For All Schools: GES Declares

The latest update for schools, teachers, learners and parents is that Tuesday is a Holiday For All Schools. This is according to the GES.

The Ghana Education Service has declared Tuesday, 7th March 2023 as a holiday for all schools at the basic and secondary levels. This means both public and private basic and second cycle schools must remain closed on that day. Schools will resume on Wednesday 8th March 2023 for academic work.

The country’s 66th Independence Day was marked today at Ho in the Volta region. It was hosted at the Adaklu District (Volta Regional Youth Resource Centre at Adaklu).

Prior to this, many private schools had announced that teachers and learners were to report to school. The new directive from the GES means parents must keep their wards at home until Wednesday.

The holiday announced by the GES is not however new. Every year, the day following the 6th of March is declared a public holiday for schools. It affords learners to have a break. However, on the day, all military installations, camps, etc are open to school children across the country.

These facilities and centres will be open to schools and school children from 9 am to 4:30 pm on Tuesday.

Schools and students who wish to visit such places must get them as early as 7 am to ever get the chance of having access to the locations since human traffic becomes intense on such days and that creates a stressful moment for learners and schools.

This creates an opportunity for learners to visit military bases and interact with military officials. Students and pupils get the chance to learn about what the military does, and the ammunition, equipment, and gadgets used by the military in the performance of their duties.

The statement declaring Tuesday, 7th March as a holiday for schools indicated that schools will resume on Wednesday for official duties.

This year’s Independence Day Celebration was under the theme  “Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose”.

At the colourful celebration in the Volta region were The President of Ghana, Ghanaians and special dignitaries across the globe. The special; guest of honour who graced the memorable occasion was President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau, who is also the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), is the Special Guest of Honour.
