Twitter to suspend impersonating accounts: Elon Musk
Twitter will be suspending soon accounts, handles that use fake identities, and all those who impersonate others. This was announced by the new owner, Mr. Elon Musk via a Tweet.
In several tweets announcing the new move by Twitter, Elon Musk said. “Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying “parody” will be permanently suspended”
“Previously, we issued a warning before suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning. This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue.”
“Widespread verification will democratize journalism & empower the voice of the people”
“Any name change at all will cause temporary loss of verified checkmark”

The move is a welcomed one as there seem to be a lot of fake accounts on Twitter that are either used by the owners to scam, propagate falsehood or make others follow them with the intention of building great followers for whatever reason.
The new decision of Elon Musk to ensure Twitter suspends impersonating accounts has been welcomed by many as a good move.

However, others have concerns and have argued that the decision wouldn’t be a problem if the verification of accounts on Twitter wasn’t purchasable
which wouldn’t be a problem if *verification* wasn’t purchasable— which is the whole point.
and it’s hilarious bc nobody verified changes their handle, they change their screen name.
you’re just mad verified profiles are changing their names to make fun of YOU. https://t.co/IrqnQluIXt

Other users have argued that since Elon Musk took over Twitter what looked like “comedy is now legal on Twitter” and has moved on to “parody” as accounts will be perma-banned” in less than two weeks.
For others, Twitter’s ability to tell who actually owns a handle was going to be the major problem.
If only there were some way to tell whether a Twitter account was genuinely held by a particular individual… https://t.co/bv8UFoc1Ns

Watching Elon discover in real time why there Need To Be Some restrictions on free speech is very funny especially when he’s making it very clear how bothered he is by shit like “Grimes bit my left nut once and it was the only pleasure I’ve ever felt” coming from his avi https://t.co/KS3JBDn5Vy

I will be using Elon buying twitter as a business case study for an undergrad class in the future.
I love that it was both a disastrous financial and PR move, but the fact that he’s making announcements and doing weak customer service directly on the app just adds another layer. https://t.co/N0eKDTZF8q

If only there was some established method in place for the actual person to be, I dunno, “verified” so users could be sure someone didn’t just pay $8 to seem legit. https://t.co/WCDNcjf91T

In a related development, nearly half f of the staff on Twitter was fired on Friday, November 4 to help cut down on cost. The move affected not only those who work remotely but also the staff of the company in other country offices including Ghana.
