The nursing profession in Ghana follows a structure with various ranks and certificates. Here are the types of nurses in Ghana listed in order of ranks and credentials:

Nursing Assistant: Nursing Assistants are entry-level healthcare professionals who deliver essential patient care under the supervision of registered nurses. They usually hold a Certificate in Nursing Assistant or related programs.

Enrolled Nurse: Enrolled Nurses have finalized a Diploma in Nursing from recognized nursing training institutions. They deliver a wider range of nursing care and can work unaided or under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Registered Nurse (General): Registered Nurses (RNs) have finished a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited nursing program. They are accountable for evaluating patient conditions, planning and executing nursing care, and providing support and education to patients and their families.

Registered Midwife: Registered Midwives have finished off additional training and hold a certificate or diploma in midwifery. They specialize in delivering care to women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Registered Midwives may work in maternity hospitals, clinics, or other healthcare settings.

Registered Mental Health Nurse: Registered Mental Health Nurses have specialized training and knowledge in the field of mental health nursing. They provide care and support to individuals with mental health ailments, comprising assessment, counseling, and administration of reasonable treatments.

They often work in community health centers, clinics, or outreach programs. RCHNs provide primary healthcare services, health education, immunizations, and disease surveillance.

Nurse Practitioner: Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are registered nurses who have finalized advanced education and training, usually at the master’s level or higher.
