Ride-hailing app Uber will from 8th May increase its fares by 21.9% as part of the requirements to comply with the tax laws in Ghana. The 21.9% tax will show on the payments portal of every passenger who uses Uber services for commuting. Uber will be required to remit the vat charged to the government of Ghana through the Ghana Revenue Authority.

The rates will be computed at the end of the trip as a 21.9% addition to the main fair. Both figures will be shown on your phone so that you know how much is going to the government of Ghana and how much is going to Uber.

In a related development, Uber in 2022 increased its base fare for Uber X, Uber X Share, and Uber Connect to a minimum of GHS8.00 from GHS7.00 and that of Uber Comfort from GHC 9.00 to GHC 10.00. Again its night fairs went up from GHC 8.00 to GHC 9.00 for all services.
