Founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor has stated that she is looking for a man to marry.
She added that despite the fact that she’s looking for a husband to support her political agenda, she’s not ready to perform wife duties.
According to Akua Donkor in an interview with Kofi TV, due to her involvement in politics, and the fact that she may be the President of Ghana someday, she’ll be expected to have a partner by her side.
“Because of politics, I want to get ,married again. It will come to a time when they’ll expect to see my partner. The men have their wives, so I’ll also need a husband. So the man who will marry me and give me his name, he’ll be the First Gentleman,” she said in Twi.
Akua Donkor states that due to this expectation, she’s open to welcoming a man who will give her his last name, however, the said man should not expect her to perform “wifey duties” for him.
“I haven’t re-married since my husband died. It’s been two years and my ring is no longer on my finger. I need to get married again because I need a partner as a female politician. It gets to a point in this political career where you and your husband’s presence will be required. I need a man to become a first gentleman after I win power”
“You won’t marry me and expect me to cook for you, or wash your clothes or worship you like married women do, so it’s really not a marriage, you’re just giving me your name,” she added.
Akua Donkor’s first husband’s name was Dennis Brandy Mensah. It is however unknown whether the two had children together.
