VIDEO: John Dumelo stars in new Ghanaian drama series Dirty Laundry
What happens when a radio host gets caught up in a scandal that ends their job? In the new Ghanaian drama series Dirty Laundry, which is now streaming on Showmax, this is what happens to John Dumelo.
The Akwaaba Magic series takes place in Accra and is about the people who make a famous radio show that broadcasts the sex scandals of famous people and politicians in order to stay in business and get ahead of the competition.
Tony, played by Dumelo, ENO, is the main character in Dirty Laundry. He is a respected, professionally trained radio host who likes to do things the right way. Tony is also the program’s director for Uptown FM. He strongly believes in the purity of the media and is proud that he doesn’t give in to the low standards of the modern media landscape, which he says is “polluted by social media bloggers and uneducated journalists.” Even when Uptown FM starts to lose listeners, he stays in this position, which annoys his coworkers and bosses, because he thinks the tide will turn one day.
Also, Nikki Samonas talks about how she got her role in the Ghanaian drama High Currency by channeling Viola Davis.

Tony is called a “good guy who is very committed to his own ideas and doesn’t care about how other people feel.” But he’s about to find out that even the most honest people can get into trouble.
When he is hired to be the MC for a high-profile wedding, Tony falls in love with the bride-to-be, Marie. The wedding is just a few weeks away. Things get even more complicated because Marie’s future husband is the son of a powerful politician and doesn’t like being lied to. Soon, Tony gets caught up in his own scandal when Marie accuses him of sexual assault. This is the kind of story that Uptown FM likes to cover.
He must now fight not only for his freedom but also for his job and his good name. Dirty Laundry is directed by Danny Adotey (Inside Out). Ghanaian-American actress Agnes Ntow plays Marie, and Ghanaian comedian Foster Romanus, Ruth Oti Yeboah (Sadia), Pascaline Edwards (Inside Out), and Mikki Osei Berko also have roles in the movie (Potomanto).
