Video of UCC students using phone lights to write a quiz in Dumsor goes viral online

A video of University of Cape Coast (UCC) students using their phone lights to write a quiz in Dumsor has gone viral. The spectacle, according to some students at the university, is a normal occurrence.
While the use of mobile phones during quizzes and main examinations on campus remains one of the top examination malpractices, the scene in the video seemed to be normal in the given circumstances.
This portal could not verify claims that UCC students use phone lights to write quizzes on campus.
The Tiktok video sighted by Ghanaeducation.org was captioned, “Welcome to the University of Competitive Choice❤️ where you write quizzes with your phone torch even in blackouts.
According to a reliable source on campus, the incidence of blackouts is a common occurrence.
The question that needs to be answered is whether the management of the university does not have a plant to power the various departments during evening classes, examinations, and quizzes organised by faculty members during evening lectures.
While some students and former students of the university claimed to be proud of their school irrespective of the challenges they confronted via their messages on the video, this video is worrying and calls for urgent strategic drift for the management of the university to find lasting solutions to such occurrences.

Such blackouts of Dumsor during quizzes or end-of-semester examinations can negatively influence student performance or compel others to engage in cheating by assessing resources related to the examination from their phones and via the internet.
In the attached video, one can see all students with their phone lights on and focused on their scripts as they provide answers to the questions asked.
