The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has banned some candidates who sat for the 2021 BECE. The national and international exam administering body applied the sanction and indicated that students who have been banned cannot take part in any examination organized by WAEC in the next two years.
Winifred Ampiaw, the spokesperson for WAEC old journalists the entire results of some 46 candidates have been cancelled for bad reasons.

“In the case of impersonation, aside from your entire results being cancelled, you will be barred from taking the Council’s examination for a period of two years,” the WAEC Public Relations Officer (PRO) said on Tuesday.
“If you fall within that category, you will not be able to resit the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School. For now, you would have to wait for the period to be over before you can resit,” Winifred Ampiaw noted.
For students, whose entire result was cancelled, they would have to hold with any quest to resit the exam until they have served the ban from WAEC.
For candidates who has some subjects cancelled, their ban period is yet to be determined.
As part of the press release which announced the release of the 2021 BECE results, WAEC indicated that at its the 32nd Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for the BECE held on 22nd February 2022, it resolved to
- Cancel the Subject Results of 138 candidates for the offence of either bringing in foreign materials into the examination hall or colluding with other candidates;
- Cancel the Entire Results of 46 candidates for the offence of either sending mobile phones into the examination hall or impersonation;
- Witheld the Subject Results of 148 candidates and the Entire Results of 109 candidates pending conclusion of investigations into various cases of alleged examination malpractice.
Meanwhile, the scripts of candidates from 24 schools in certain subjects are undergoing.
